The Baby Cricket Cranes start preparations for the next U-19 World Cup Qualifiers with a series with their East African neighbors Kenya and Rwanda. The series will be hosted in Jinja from March 26th - April 2nd.
Uganda finished 3rd at the U-19 Qualifiers last year in Tanzania and missed out on an immediate return to the World Cup. Uganda has been to the U-19 World Cup three times (2004, 2006 and 2022) and seek to make appearance at the World Cup consistent. The next U-19 World Cup will be in hosted by Zimbabwe in 2026.
The tournament will give us what to work on going forward as coaches, and it will create room for the youngsters to grow especially expose them to a competitive standard that is required to take with us to the world cup qualifiers, the squad will remain open for every talented young cricketer out there so we shall keep searching and bringing in good energies into the side - Emmauel Isaneez U-19 Head Coach
Kenya finished second at the qualifiers in Tanzania but also want to use this tour to prepare for the qualifiers enough.
We have started early preparations for the next world cup qualifiers. We are hoping to build a solid team that will take us to the world cup. Rwanda will take part in the Div 2 U-19 World Cup qualifiers in August in Malawi this year and will use this tour and test the their youngsters against some quality opposition.
This tournament Is a great opportunity for our boys to continue their preparation towards the ICC Africa Division 2 qualifier most importantly as we come against teams That we want to join in the division 1 of Africa. The road map towards qualification is unfolding well ,the team was selected from Our Byiruka U17s program which brought together 128 Players from 9 regions competing at Gahanga and IPRC grounds in August 2023. They went in a residential camp on the 4 of Jan and later played The MCC team that toured Rwanda last February. This a great opportunity for the boys in the region to learn how to compete representing their nations - Landry Rurangwa - Development Manager Rwanda Cricket Association.
