Press Release:
Soroti City won their maiden T20 league title last year after ending Aziz Damani from winning a fourth consecutive title. The girls from the East were dominant last season led by Victoria Pearls Captain Janet Mbabazi dropping just one game in the season enroute to a maiden title.
The defending champions Soroti City know that without Aziz Damani this year they stand a great chance of defending their title.
It’s a going to be a tough season for us our plans were affected by the policy passed by the secretariat limiting the number of players in our squad . This has affected our preparations with key valuable players exiting but nevertheless we have a good side and are looking at building a new team so that players understand each other if it’s gets us to win the title it will be a bonus. We have lost Kevin Awino, Phiona Kulume, Sarah Akiteng and Christine Anayo and added Esther Iloku , Proscovia Alako, Naume Amongin and Kevin Amuge. We don’t have specific stars for this season we are looking out for but we have lots of young players from Light SS that will be part of the squad that we want to get experience and game exposure playing with the seniors - Felix Musana Chairman Soroti City.
The championship this year will have nine teams divided into two groups. The teams will play double headers on each match day with the top two sides qualifying for the semifinals. The games will be played in Lugogo, Entebbe, Jinja and new Florida Cricket Oval in Katosi.
Group A: Soroti City, Jinja SS, JACC, ACC, Tornado Bee
Group B: Olila CC, Wanderers, Pioneer, Tornado
“Domestic cricket is the backbone of Uganda Cricket’s ongoing success, and this competition will allow more female domestic players the opportunity to gain top level experience and showcase their talents. The competition will create more exposure for women’s cricket as UCA looks to grow women and girls’ participation. The competition has some changes with each club will feature a max of 3 national team players and at least 2 U19 girl’s players. This is aimed at creating more competition within the teams while significantly increasing motivation amongst players to excel. Joshua Mwanja - UCA Operations Manager”
