Press Release:
The men’s T20 season has taken on a new format for the 2024 season with teams put in groups of five irrespective of their divisions. Last season's T20 league was played according to team divisions with Tornado Bee winning the Div 2 title and Aziz Damani winning the Div 1 title.
The T20 format takes on a new format that allows Div 2 teams to flex muscle with the Div 1 sides in four different groups. 20 teams have confirmed to take part in the 2024 edition. Aziz Damani and Challengers who have dominated the T20 league for the past seasons will not be part of the 2024 edition.
Kutchi Tigers the winners of the 50 over league in Group A, runners up Wanderers are in Group B while newly promoted Avengers and JACC are in Group D and C respectively. Each match day will be a double header with each player of the match rewarded with 50k.
T20 cricket offers a shorter and faster version of the game that we use to gain popularity within our fans because of its high-octane action. The tournament will not only contribute to the growth of cricket at the domestic level but also provide a stepping stone for talented players to shine on the national stage. Lastly, the UG20 competition allows local players to participate and make a name for themselves that will eventually lead to their selection on the national team. Joshua Mwanja - Operations Manager Uganda Cricket Association.
