A squad of 20 ladies has been selected to enter residential camp as the qualifiers draw closer. The Global World Cup Qualifiers are scheduled for September 7th to 20th in Gaborone Botswana. Uganda will battle 10 other teams for the single African slot to the next round.
A squad of 24 started preparations two weeks ago and has been reduced to 20 to continue to practice with the final 14 expected to be announced before departure.
The training residence camp is meant to protect the players and officials from any Covid infections that could result in the team missing the tournament.
Team Head Coach Suraj Karavadra had this say about the camp
We are going to a camp for three weeks before leaving for Botswana and the reason is that we don’t want a repeat of what happened with Rwanda. We shall use the three weeks to get the girls playing together and use more of the center wicket. We have our sports phycologist (Edgar Kazibwe) with us for this period and it will be important that we keep the whole group in a good space before we travel to Botswana”
The team will be camped at Hawaii Resort in Kawuku Entebbe until they leave for the tournament in early September.
