The 2018 National Mini Cricket showdown came to an end yesterday at Lugogo with a total of 20 teams from all over Uganda taking part.
Kasese region has dominated mini cricket for the last four years and this year they picked two accolades as five time tournament favorites Kyanjuki PS and Bulembia PS scoped the U-13 Boys and the U-11 Boys categories respectively.
Kyanjuki Primary School won the U13 category unbeaten beating Luwero Boys PS, Balawoli PS, Soroti Islamic PS, Shimon Demonstration PS saving the best for the final where they defeated Soroti Islamic.
In the U-11 boys category another Kasese School, out classed its opponents to clinch the championship, Bulembia won against St Edwards PS, Balawoli PS, Soroti Islamic PS, and Budo Junior.
After years of dominance by the schools from Kasese there was a change of guard in the ladies category as Soroti Islamic PS and Rockview PS in the U-13 and U11 girls’ categories respectively.
Soroti Islamic made good of their second appearance at the national finals winning their maiden championship at the coveted festival. Coach Ivan Kakande was the happiest man of the day as the hard work is finally starting to bear fruit as his school children were crowned champions in the U-13 girls’ Category.
The Mini Cricket festival is a foundation for a lifelong interest in cricket at the junior level, the event provides an opportunity to all children to compete irrespective of their abilities.
Mini Cricket provides physical exercise in an enjoyable form to the children and has also helped develop self-confidence to participants.
