Uganda Cricket will announce their new CEO on Friday this week. The overdue announcement comes after UCA together with a human resource agency were able to conclude the recruitment process that has taken over two months.
The new CEO will be replacing Justine Ligyalingi who left the job in March 2018 after eight years at the helm. Justine left a good foundation for the new CEO to be able to progress the game of cricket in Uganda. During his eight years at the helm Justine increased participation of cricket in for both boys and girls but his biggest achievement will be the development of ladies cricket, from just four ladies clubs in 2001 the ladies league now boasts of over 15 clubs and the girl's school cricket week has also seen a growth in the number of participating schools from just four schools in 2004 to over 30 schools now taking part in the qualifiers. These developments helped improve the score card grant from the ICC to Uganda thereby improving UCA's funding from just $100,000 in 2001 to over $500,000 in the last 4 years.
The new boss at cricket will have to deal with the broken relationship between the cricket association and the National council of Sports due to the hire of the Lugogo cricket oval to other entities. He will also be tasked with raising the brand of cricket in country as the sport competes for a following with other niche sports such as Rugby and Golf.
The new CEO will be given a three year term after which the board will decide whether to continue the relationship or find a new replacement.
The press conference will be held at the Copper Chimney Lugogo at 9am.
