KICC 134/9 in 24 overs (Davis Karashani 35 (36), Eishan Sohaib 23 (14) and Davis Karashani 5/16 in 5 overs) beat Tornado Bee CC 105/10 in 22.4 overs (Abdallah Lubega 27 (32), David Musoke 24 (40), Mitch Horrocks 3/25 in 5 overs, and Abdallah Lubega 2/19 in 5 overs) by 19 runs.

Due to an early morning downpour in Kampala that rendered the University oval at Kyambogo unfit for play for a while, the Jazz Safari National Men’s league game between KICC and Tornado Bee CC was delayed and as a result, both teams had to settle for a reduced overs game.

KICC emerged the victors of this highly sought out affair when they beat local rivals Tornado Bee CC. Former cranes skipper Davis Karashani picked up another man of match award in consecutive games with a scintillating performance for his side KICC. The right arm off spinner took advantage of the absence of Frank Nsubuga and Irfan Afridi to snare another 5 wickets, finishing with figures of 5/16 in 5 overs. The Bees had no reply for Karashani’s bowling prowess.

After winning the toss, KICC opted to bat first despite the prevailing conditions that many would say favored the bowling side. This however was not the case as KICC were able to put on a respectable score of 134/9 in the allocated 24 overs. Karashani and Sohaib led their team’s batting with figures of 35 (36) and 23 (14) respectively. Mitch Horrocks 3/25 in 5 overs and Abdallah Lubega bowled an impressive combined 10 overs for 44 runs with the latter contributing figures of 2/19 in 5 overs, to ensure that the total set by KICC was one that would be within reach.

If you are an ardent follower of the IPL where teams score as many 180 plus runs in just 20 overs, you would say that a target score of 135 runs in 24 overs was peanuts to the Bees. This was not the case however as KICC had other plans in mind for the Bees. Without Roger Mukasa and Deus Muhumuza, top order batsmen Abdallah Lubega and David Musoke (27 (32) and 24 (40) respectively) looked the part when they began their team’s run chase. KICC were however the better team as the managed to edge out the Bees by 19 runs when the latter collapsed at 105 all out.

Week in, week out, Davis Karashini’s performances have caught many an eye and Tornado Bee CC were not any deifferent. He managed to wholly pick a massive 5 wickets from the Bees for a meagre 16 runs in 5 overs and also score 35 runs off 36 balls to duly earn him the man of match award. Despite their shaky start to the season KICC find themselves in a familiar position, even with more games played than any other team in the division. Can they keep this new found run of fortune going? Well, we shall have to see as the season goes on, won’t we?
