The two candidates must convince 16 delegates.

KAMPALA- One of the things many will concur with is that Richard Mwami has endured a relatively tough two-year term at the helm of Uganda Cricket Association (UCA).

Under his reign, the Cricket Cranes suffered a handful of overwhelming defeats and finished among the bottom four sides at the Two ICC Twenty20 World Cup Qualifiers (2012 & 2013) and recently finished last at the 2015 ODI World Cup Qualifier in New Zealand.

The Cricket Cranes’ runners-up finish behind Nepal at the ICC World Cricket League Division III in Bermuda last May is perharps the only thing on the pitch that brought a smile to the fraternity.

But the margin between his successes and failures is what will raise several questions as to why he is chasing a second term.

The former national team batsman Mwami will contest against property mogul Mukesh Shukla for the top job at the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) elective general assembly at Lugogo this afternoon.

“When we got into power two years ago, we found Uganda in the ICC Division III and moving to Division II was one of the our goals,” said Mwami.

“As a board, we did all preparations but fell short at our target (remaining in Div. II) in New Zealand and owing to the big level, it would be harsh to call our reign a failure,” Mwami said.

Shukla’s emphasis is on revamping the Schools Development Programme which not only nurtured many of the current national team players.
