Uganda Cricket Builds Momentum Through ICC Support and MCA Partnership

Uganda Cricket is strengthening its long-term development pathway through enhanced ICC support for Associate Members and a growing strategic partnership with the Mumbai Cricket Association. The collaboration is expected to boost technical expertise, coaching development and governance structures. With backing from ICC chairman Jay Shah’s Associate Member vision, Uganda continues to position itself as one of the fastest-rising cricket nations globally.

Cricket Uganda continues to strengthen its position among the world’s leading Associate Members through strategic international partnerships backed by the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Match Gains. The tour formed part of Uganda’s broader international development pathway supported through strategic partnerships and global cricket engagement.

The Uganda Cricket ICC MCA Partnership represents one of the latest examples of how emerging cricket nations are benefiting from the ICC’s renewed commitment to Associate Member development under the leadership of ICC chairman Jay Shah.

With increased emphasis on structured growth, technical excellence and institutional collaboration, Uganda is steadily building a stronger foundation to compete at higher levels of international cricket while expanding its global network of partners.

ICC Development Focus

Since assuming leadership of the ICC, Jay Shah has consistently championed the growth of Associate Members, recognising their importance in expanding the global footprint of cricket.

His vision has focused on creating stronger pathways for development through increased collaboration between Full Member and Associate cricket bodies, while encouraging knowledge sharing and capacity building across emerging cricket nations.

For Uganda Cricket, this approach has translated into greater opportunities for engagement with established cricket institutions and access to expertise that can accelerate the sport’s growth locally.

Uganda’s Growth Model

Over the past decade, Uganda has emerged as one of Africa’s most progressive Associate cricket nations.

The country’s steady rise has been driven by improved governance structures, investment in grassroots development, enhanced coaching programmes and competitive performances on the international stage.

Uganda’s historic qualification for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup further highlighted the effectiveness of its long-term development strategy and reinforced its status as a model Associate nation.

These achievements have made Uganda an attractive partner for international cricket institutions looking to contribute to the development of emerging cricket markets.

MCA Partnership Framework

A major pillar of the Uganda Cricket ICC MCA Partnership is the growing relationship between Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) and the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), one of India’s most influential cricket institutions.

The collaboration is expected to facilitate knowledge exchange, technical support and administrative development while creating opportunities for long-term cooperation between the two organisations.

Uganda Cricket Association chairman Jackson Kavuma credited both ICC leadership and existing relationships with MCA officials for helping strengthen the partnership.

“Jay Shah has been instrumental in supporting Associate Members including Uganda. As part of his efforts to strengthen support for Associates, he encouraged the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to play a more active role in this agenda.

“Uganda was fortunate to have already established strong relations with Mumbai, particularly through Ajinkya Naik, President of MCA, which made engagement much easier. My personal relationship with Naik also played a significant role in helping Uganda build and strengthen this partnership with Mumbai,” Kavuma said on return from India where he also met Jay Shah, T20 India World Cup winning captain Suryakumar Yadav and watched the Indian Premier League eliminator matches and final amongst other high profile meets and visits he had with prospective Cricket Uganda partners.

Technical Exchange Programmes

The partnership is expected to deliver a range of development initiatives that will benefit Uganda Cricket both on and off the field.

Among the anticipated areas of collaboration are coaching education programmes, technical exchange opportunities, player development initiatives and administrative capacity building.

These programmes are designed to strengthen the overall cricket ecosystem in Uganda while ensuring local administrators, coaches and players gain exposure to global best practices.

The long-term objective is to create sustainable systems that continue to improve standards across all levels of the game.

Leadership and Governance

Strong governance remains central to Uganda Cricket’s development agenda.

The association has prioritised transparency, institutional growth and strategic planning as part of its commitment to building a sustainable cricket structure capable of supporting future success.

International partnerships such as the MCA collaboration provide an additional platform for learning and institutional strengthening, ensuring Uganda remains aligned with global standards in cricket administration.
