The VPs 50 Overs Challenge got underway today at the Lugogo Cricket Oval, marking the start of a series of practice matches for the senior women’s team, the Victoria Pearls.
The 50-over series officially opens a new competitive chapter in Cricket Uganda’s 2026 calendar.
Designed to test players’ resilience, adaptability, and technical ability over an extended format, the tournament offers a crucial platform for assessing squad depth and endurance beyond the shorter versions of the game.
The opening match was delayed by rain and subsequently reduced to 45 overs.

Team Red delivered a commanding all-round performance to secure an 85-run victory over Team Yellow, underlining the intent and competitiveness expected throughout the challenge.
Batting first after winning the toss, Team Red posted 150 in 38 overs.
The innings was anchored by a composed 43 from Rita Musamali, supported by useful contributions from Proscovia Alako (25) and Irene Alumo (20).
Despite regular wickets falling, Team Red showed discipline and intent, accumulating enough runs to apply scoreboard pressure.
Team Yellow’s bowling effort was led by Nandera Immaculate and Consylate Aweko Nimungu, who each claimed three wickets.
In reply, Team Yellow struggled to build partnerships against a disciplined bowling attack.
Immaculate Nakisuuyi top-scored with 24, but wickets fell steadily as Team Red’s bowlers exploited movement and consistency.
Lona Anyait produced a standout spell, taking 2 wickets for just 7 runs, while Sarah Akiteng added further pressure with economical bowling.
Team Yellow were eventually bowled out for 65 in 29.1 overs.
