The Sky View Boys’ Schools Cricket Week returns to Fort Portal City from August 22–29, 2026, bringing together 20 of Uganda’s leading school cricket teams in the country’s most anticipated post-primary schools cricket championship.
The annual tournament, one of the highlights of Uganda’s school cricket calendar, has once again attracted a strong field representing six regions of the country; Nile, Central, Eastern, Northern, Western and South Western Uganda.
For generations of school cricketers, Boys’ Schools Cricket Week has been more than a mere competition.
It is an annual meeting point for established rivalries, emerging contests and new challengers, with every participating school arriving with the ambition of claiming national honours.
This year’s expanded field will also see five schools make their Boys’ Schools Cricket Week debut, adding another dimension to a tournament renowned for its fierce competition and tradition.
20 Schools, Six Regions & Five Debutants
The 2026 championship will feature schools from across Uganda:

The five debutants – St. Cornelius SS Kalagala, Uganda Martyrs College Ssonde, Shree Sahajand International School, Lango College and Kasese Secondary School – will be looking to make an immediate impression on the national stage.
Their arrival adds fresh competition to a championship where established schools will once again seek to defend their reputations, renew old rivalries and establish new ones.
Fort Portal Expands Its Cricket Stage
Unlike the 2025 edition, which was played across six grounds, this year’s championship will utilise seven playing grounds across Fort Portal, providing the capacity required for an expanded 20-school field.
Nyakasura School, St. Leo’s College Kyegobe and Kichwamba will each provide two playing fields, while Canon Apollo Primary School will provide one field.
The venues will host the group-stage matches, knockout fixtures and the national championship final as the tournament progresses towards crowning the 2026 national schoolboys cricket champion.
Taking The Game To More Schools
The return of Boys Schools Cricket Week to Western Uganda is expected to provide another significant boost to the growth of cricket in the region.
Beyond the competition itself, the tournament brings together young players, teachers, coaches, umpires, scorers and other members of the cricket community, creating an important platform for participation, exposure and talent development.
Cricket Uganda Development Manager Davis Turinawe said taking major competitions to different parts of the country remains an important part of the federation’s development strategy.
“Hosting the tournament in Western Uganda gives us an opportunity to grow the cricket community in the region.
We want to see more schools taking up the sport, more young people playing cricket and greater participation from teachers, umpires and scorers,” Turinawe said.
He added that staging the championship outside Uganda’s traditional cricketing centres provides young players with an opportunity to compete at a higher level while exposing more communities to the sport.
Showcasing Western Uganda’s Talent
For Edith Ndolerire, the host coordinator and cricket teacher at Nyakasura School, the return of Boys Schools Cricket Week provides an important opportunity to showcase the cricketing potential of Fort Portal and Western Uganda.
Ndolerire expects at least 300 participants to converge on Fort Portal for the championship, while the tournament will also provide an opportunity for visiting teams, officials and supporters to experience the city.
“There is a lot of talent in this region that has not yet received enough exposure. Hosting an event of this magnitude will help bring that talent to the forefront and inspire more young people to take up cricket,” Ndolerire said.
The tournament is expected to attract cricket followers from across the country, with selected matches to be streamed live and a range of activities taking place throughout the week.
Rivalries, Tradition & New Ambition
The Sky View Boys Schools Cricket Week remains one of Cricket Uganda’s most important school development programmes, providing young cricketers with a competitive pathway and an opportunity to gain the experience required to progress through the national development structures.
The tournament has historically been a breeding ground for players who have gone on to represent Uganda at various levels, making the annual championship an important scouting and talent-identification platform.
For the established contenders, Fort Portal presents another opportunity to add to their school’s legacy.
For emerging programmes, it is a chance to challenge the traditional order. And for the five debutants, the week offers an opportunity to announce themselves on the national stage.
With 20 schools, seven grounds and seven days of competition, Fort Portal will become the centre of Uganda’s schoolboy cricket from August 22–29 as the country’s young cricketers battle for national honours.
Defending Champions Mwiri
Record champions Busoga College Mwiri (BCM), with 20 titles, enter the 2026 championship as the defending champions after winning the 2025 edition.
Mwiri remain one of the most decorated schools in the history of Boys Schools Cricket Week, while Jinja Senior Secondary School have also enjoyed considerable success in recent editions, winning the championship in 2023 and 2024.
Their rivalry, alongside the ambitions of the other established contenders and the arrival of five new schools, promises another highly competitive edition of the national championship.

The Sky View Boys Schools Cricket Week is an annual Cricket Uganda competition that brings together leading post-primary school cricket teams from across Uganda.
The championship provides a national platform for young cricketers to compete, gain experience and showcase their talent while strengthening the development of cricket within schools and communities across the country.
The continued expansion of the competition reflects Cricket Uganda’s commitment to widening participation, identifying emerging talent and building a strong pipeline of players for Uganda’s future national teams.
