


Sacred Heart Secondary School and Gulu High School secured qualification for the Northern Regional round after a competitive Gulu District Girls Schools Cricket Week qualifier held from 21 to 26 March in Gulu.

Five schools took part in the district contest: Sacred Heart Secondary School, Gulu High School, Gulu SS, Gulu Army, PECE SS, and Ocer Campion J C.
The teams competed in a round robin format before progressing to the knockout stage, battling for the available qualification slots to the next phase.
The district qualifiers are part of the wider Northern regional pathway where schools must first progress from district competitions before advancing further.
From the group stages, several matches were affected by weather interruptions, with a number of fixtures abandoned, but teams still showed determination whenever play was possible.
Gulu High School emerged as one of the standout sides in the early stages, registering a dominant 98 run victory over Gulu SS after posting 133 for 3 and bowling out their opponents for just 35.
Sacred Heart Secondary School also impressed despite limited game time, carrying strong momentum into the knockout rounds.
In the semi finals, Sacred Heart Secondary School delivered a commanding performance, bowling out Gulu SS for just 16 runs before chasing down the target without loss in just 1.5 overs to secure a 10-wicket victory.
Gulu High School joined them in the final after defeating Gulu Army by 83 runs, underlining their strength with both bat and ball.
The final saw Sacred Heart Secondary School produce a clinical display, restricting Gulu High School to 29 for 5 before comfortably chasing down the target without losing a wicket in just 5.5 overs to be crowned district champions.
They finished the tournament unbeaten in completed matches, while Gulu High School secured second place to also qualify for the regional stage.
Speaking after the conclusion of the qualifiers, Head Coach of Northern Cricket Hub, Ivan Kagoda, expressed his satisfaction with the tournament.
It was a successful tournament seeing the girls battling it out as we had more new schools coming on board, brightening up the competition
he said.
With the district stage successfully concluded, Sacred Heart Secondary School and Gulu High School now progress to the Northern Regional qualifiers as their Girls Schools Cricket Week journey continues.
