A dramatic final day of the CU Men’s 50 Overs League saw Wanderers CC close their campaign with a win over St. John’s SS Mukono in a match marked by the emotional retirement of Denis Arthur Musali, while Pak Shaheens CC were crowned Bronze champions after a composed victory over Centurion CC.
The season also concluded with recognition of outstanding team and individual performances across all categories.

A difficult season for St. John’s SS Mukono ended on a sombre note at Lugogo Cricket Oval, as Wanderers CC secured a 31-run victory in their final Silver Category clash, a match defined as much by emotion as by competition, marking the retirement of veteran cricketer Denis Arthur Musali.
Batting first after winning the toss, Wanderers CC posted 135 all out in 39.5 overs in a gritty but inconsistent batting display.
Edgar Mudoola top-scored with 29, while Rudra Prajapati contributed 20 and Ivan Kakande added 13 to push the total to a modest but defendable score.
Musali, playing his final league match after 23 years of service for Wanderers CC since 2003, led the side as captain and contributed 17 runs in a composed knock that reflected his experience.
His farewell appearance drew emotional attention as he brought down the curtain on a long and dedicated domestic career.
St. John’s SS Mukono’s bowling unit kept things tight, with Ronald Mulumba and Wilson Otieno taking three wickets each, while Wilson Kimbugwe and Brian Kimaleni chipped in with crucial breakthroughs.
In reply, St. John’s SS Mukono’s chase never fully settled despite resistance from Mathias Ssentongo (25) and Jonah Nsamba (37 off 29 balls).
Regular wickets derailed momentum as Eria Kasule led Wanderers CC with a superb 4-wicket haul, well supported by Ivan Kakande’s three wickets and early strikes from Arthur Magwa.
St. John’s were eventually bowled out for 104 in 25.2 overs, falling short by 31 runs. The defeat capped a difficult campaign, as they lost all seven matches and were relegated to the Bronze Category alongside Nile Cricket Club.
Despite the result, the day belonged to Denis Arthur Musali, whose long-standing contribution to Wanderers CC was honoured at the close of his 23-year league career.

A low-scoring Bronze Category final produced high tension and high reward, as Pak Shaheens CC secured the title with a 6-wicket win over Centurion CC at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
Batting first after losing the toss, Centurion CC were restricted to 128 all out in 29.5 overs after a shaky start and relentless pressure from the Pak Shaheens bowling attack.
Jimmy Atuhairwe anchored with a composed 67 off 69 balls, striking 9 fours and 3 sixes to anchor the innings.
He received support from Ali Balidawa (25) and Trevor Bukenya (14), but regular wickets prevented any sustained partnerships.
Simon Okecho produced a devastating spell, ripping through the batting lineup with 7 wickets in a match-defining performance, while Raheel Sarwar and Akbar Ahmad provided key support.
In response, Pak Shaheens CC stumbled early to 5/1 and 24/2 before Athar Ali steadied the chase with an unbeaten 46 off 45 balls. Raheel Sarwar added 24 and Sunil Kumar contributed 15 as they rebuilt control.
Centurion CC bowlers Trevor Bukenya and Leon Kigozi struck early, but the low target and composed batting ensured Pak Shaheens stayed ahead of the required rate. They eventually reached 129/4 in 20.2 overs to complete a 6-wicket victory.
Despite the defeat, both Centurion CC and Pak Shaheens CC earned promotion after strong campaigns in the Bronze Category.
