Result: Mukono Warriors won by 20 runs

Mukono Warriors produced a composed and confident all-round display to defeat GM Sugar by 20 runs in the Mukono Regional Men’s T20 at the Florida Cricket Oval, a victory that carried both a trophy and pride.

The win felt particularly satisfying for the Warriors, who had suffered heartbreak against the same opponents in last year’s Division Two final of the Cricket Uganda 50 overs league.

On that occasion, GM Sugar piled on 190 all out before dismissing Mukono for just 104, sealing an emphatic 86-run triumph. This time, however, the script was rewritten.

Asked to bat first after GM Sugar chose to field in Mukono Regional T20 cup final, Mukono settled quickly.

Fahad Mutagana set the tone with a fluent 36 off 32 balls, striking four boundaries and a six to steady the innings through the powerplay. His knock provided the platform for Ronald Lutaaya to take center stage.

Lutaaya delivered a commanding 70 off 48 balls, blending elegant timing with controlled aggression.

His eight fours and three sixes kept the scoreboard ticking and ensured momentum through the middle overs.

When Mukono reached 105/1 in the 12th over, a daunting total seemed within reach.

Although a brief wobble saw them slip to 119/4, late acceleration from Musa Majid Ramathan (22 off 10) and a calm, unbeaten 25 from Het Pindoria carried the Warriors to a competitive 168/6.

In reply, GM Sugar began positively, with Mehul Patel and Simon Ssesazi showing early intent. But timely breakthroughs disrupted their rhythm.

Bhavesh Patel fought hard for his 43 off 39 balls, while Rahul Patel added a brisk 29 to keep hopes alive.

The decisive moment arrived in the middle overs when Robert Arjuna produced a match-shaping spell of 3 for 21.

Supported by disciplined bowling from Musa Majid and Pindoria, Mukono steadily tightened the screws. Boundaries dried up, the required rate climbed, and GM Sugar eventually closed on 148/8.

It was a complete team performance from Mukono, with Lutaaya deservedly named Player of the Match.

Both sides also used the fixture to test new additions ahead of the upcoming Cricket Uganda Men’s 50-Over League Division One season, where, after earning promotion from Division Two, they now prepare for a fresh and bigger challenge.
