Cricket Uganda completed Mini Cricket Development Festivals, which were held in Ndejje, Mbale, Kamuli, and Lugazi on Friday, 27th March.
These events formed part of Cricket Uganda’s grassroots program, giving boys and girls in the Under‑11 and Under‑13 categories the chance to participate and showcase their talent.
The festivals followed earlier preparations that included capacity‑building sessions for teachers and District Sports Officers.

These trainings equipped schools and communities with the skills to deliver Mini Cricket effectively and strengthened the program’s impact.
The festivals were part of a wider rollout of activities across the country, with several districts hosting similar events.

Each festival helped build momentum ahead of the regional competitions, where schools would compete for higher honours.
Speaking after the completion of the festivals, Grace Mutyaba, Northern Region Development Officer, said;
We are glad to have completed the Mini Cricket Development Festivals in Ndejje, Mbale, Kamuli and Lugazi on Friday, with the next festivals scheduled to run on the weekends of 11th and 18th April. The events were a success because we had a good number of schools take part. Our goal as Cricket Uganda is to ensure talent is nurtured across all regions, and seeing the youngsters participate indicated a bright future for them going forward.
The 2026 Mini Cricket Festivals are expected to engage approximately 10,240 participants nationwide, with over 30 districts covered.
Cricket Uganda has also planned structured competitions within districts and across regions, which will strengthen competitive participation at the grassroots level.
These initiatives will ensure that newly introduced schools gain experience and talent is nurtured consistently.

Mini Cricket remains the entry point into Uganda’s cricket pathway, aspiring to introduce children to the game in a safe and enjoyable environment while nurturing talent, building life skills, and laying a sustainable foundation for the future of cricket in the country.
