Cricket Uganda’s mini cricket calendar continued over the weekend with three district festivals successfully held in Jinja, Masaka, and Mbarara on Saturday, 11th April.

The events brought together schools to compete across the U11 and U13 boys’ and girls’ categories, producing spirited contests and qualifiers for the upcoming regional stage.

Jinja District Mini Cricket Festival

The Jinja District Mini Cricket Festival was held with full participation from schools. Army Boarding Primary School qualified in all four categories, while Police Barracks and Magwa Primary also secured places.

In the U11 girls’ category, Army Boarding Primary School and Magwa Primary School advanced, while in the U13 girls’ category, Army Boarding Primary School and Police Barracks Primary School progressed.

For the boys, Police Barracks Primary School and Army Boarding Primary School qualified in U11, while Magwa Primary School and Army Boarding Primary School took the U13 slots.

Eastern Region RDO Sadam Oyaga handsover certificates at the mini cricket festival

Eastern Regional Development Officer Sadam Oyaga noted,

Today we had our Jinja District Mini Cricket Festival and all schools turned up as expected. I would like to thank the stakeholders, Cricket Uganda, JACC, and Cricket Without Boundaries for enabling this to happen. It helps the young ones to prepare for the regionals that will be held next term.

Masaka Mini Cricket Festival

In Masaka, eight primary schools participated in the festival. Wisdom Primary School qualified in the U11 boys’ category, while Hill Road Primary School advanced in both the U11 and U13 girls’ divisions.

RDO Ssempijja Lawrence is offering equipment to the schools that participated.

Mbirizi Primary School from Lwengo joined the list of qualifiers in the U13 boys’ category.

RDO Ssempijja Lawrence also noted;

In this tournament, the defending champion for both U13 boys and girls, Hill Road Primary, managed to defend only the girls’ U13 trophy. We had two debutant that is wisdom Primary school that managed to qualify and became the champions of U12 boys and qualified for the regionals. It was a happy moment for the children and the head teacher of Wisdom Primary School. Mbirizi RC Primary school from Lwengo was also another school that played their first tournament in the district. They also became our U13 boys champions 2026, and they also qualified for their first time in the mini cricket regionals. In this tournament, we had three teams that represent from lwengo district.

Mbarara Mini Cricket Festival

At Kakyeeka Ground in Mbarara, the festival concluded with competitive matches across all categories.

Boma Primary School qualified in the U11 boys’ division, while Kyamugorani Primary School advanced in the U11 girls’ category.

At Kakyeeka Ground in Mbarara, Coach Baraka Turyamwesimiira sensured the success of the mini cricket festival

Uganda Martyrs Primary School and Nyamityobora Primary School both secured places in the U13 boys’ category.

Next Stage

With Jinja, Masaka, and Mbarara festivals concluded, the qualifiers now prepare for the regional competitions to be held next term.

The three events highlighted the continued growth of mini cricket across Uganda and the readiness of schools to compete at higher levels.
