Kamuli District was buzzing with excitement on Friday, March 27th, as pupils from across the area gathered for the Mini Cricket Festival.

The event brought together young boys and girls eager to showcase their skills and earn a place in the regional competitions that will be staged in Jinja next term.

Mini cricket continues to play a vital role in Uganda’s cricket development pathway, offering children the chance to learn, compete, and grow through the sport.

Reflecting on the day’s success, in-charge and Cricket Uganda Regional Development Officer Sadam Oyaga said,

Today was our mini cricket festival in Kamuli district. Mini cricket is the grassroots programme organised in all districts around Uganda, in which primary schools compete to qualify for regionals in the second term. It helps to nurture talent for young boys and girls in primary schools.

From Kamuli, four schools secured qualification to the next stage. Balawoli Primary School will represent the district in the U11 boys’ category, while Kamuli Girls Primary School impressed by qualifying in both the U11 and U13 girls’ categories.

Butabala Primary School earned its spot in the U13 boys’ category, rounding off a strong showing from the district.

The festival was more than just a competition; it was a celebration of community, participation, and the bright future of cricket in Uganda.

With Kamuli’s young cricketers now preparing for the regional stage in Jinja, the event stands as a shining example of how grassroots cricket continues to nurture the next generation of talent.
