LYCA WOMEN’S T20 LEAGUE 2025 – MATCHDAY 5 PREVIEW
Saturday, June 28, 2025
TWO GAMES. TWO STORIES. ONE DEFINING WEEKEND.
As the Lyca Women’s T20 League enters its final matchday of June, the stakes couldn’t be higher. One team chases a flawless season, others fight for survival, and old rivals aim to rewrite history. Matchday Five serves up just two fixtures – but each carries the potential to reshape the semi-final landscape dramatically.
SATURDAY – JUNE 28, 2025 – FIXTURE PREVIEWS
Tornado Bee vs Soroti City CC – Florida Oval – 10am & 2pm
Top Clash in Group A – Revenge or Repeat?
This is Group A’s blockbuster clash: Tornado Bees s Soroti City – a rematch of the only blemish on Soroti’s near-perfect 2024 run.
Flashback to July 13, 2024:
In the morning, Soroti dismissed the Bees for 48 and chased with ease. But the Bees struck back in the afternoon, bowling out Soroti for just 32 and winning by 2 wickets – the only team to beat the eventual champions last season.
Fast forward to 2025, Soroti City have picked up exactly where they left off, but even stronger:
▪️ They opened with a 30-run win over Pioneer and chased 28 in just 4.1 overs in the second game.
▪️ Wanderers fell by 55 runs and 9 wickets on June 14th.
▪️ Last weekend, Soroti obliterated Tornado CC – winning by 115 runs and 124 runs in two merciless displays.
With six wins from six games and 12 points, Soroti top Group A, looking composed, hungry, and ruthless.
Meanwhile, Tornado Bee are quietly building a strong campaign of their own. Sitting second in Group A with 6 points from 4 games, they’ve only dropped one match – a loss to Pioneer in their last outing.
Can the Bees sting again to repeat their historic upset, or will Soroti City cement their supremacy and secure top spot?
Mukono Development vs Jinja SS – Jinja SS Oval – 10am & 2pm
Playoff Implications Loom Large
This Group B fixture is a semi-final six-pointer. Mukono Development started brightly but have stumbled recently. After two crushing defeats to Olila last weekend, they sit on 6 points from 6 games. Victory is essential to maintain second place and keep their semi-final dreams alive.
Jinja SS, with 4 points from 4 games, were idle last weekend. Their last outing on June 14th saw them fall twice to Olila’s juggernaut. However, they return refreshed and reinforced, with key national stars back from the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament. Victoria Pearls vice-captain Rita Musamali and dynamic all-rounder Stephanie Nampiina are available for selection, adding vital depth and experience.
A win for Jinja SS will level them with Mukono Development and blow Group B wide open. For Mukono, victory would tighten their grip on that coveted semi-final spot.

GROUP STANDINGS – SNAPSHOT
Group A: Soroti City – 6 games – 12 points, Tornado Bees – 4 games – 6 points
Group B: Olila CC – 8 games – 16 points, Mukono Development – 6 games – 6 points
THE RACE TIGHTENS
Matchday Five may have fewer fixtures, but the stakes are immense:
▪️ Soroti City face their 2024 nemesis in a clash that could seal Group A.
▪️ Mukono and Jinja SS go head-to-head with playoff hopes on the line.
As June closes, the league’s picture sharpens. For some, it’s about staying perfect. For others, it’s do-or-die.
