Matchday 15 of the Cricket Uganda Men’s 50 Over League promises another exciting weekend of action across the Gold, Silver, and Bronze categories, with promotion, playoff qualification, and survival all at stake. The spotlight will be on Lugogo Oval, where Nile CC face Soroti City CC in a crucial Silver Category clash that could have major implications in the battle to avoid relegation. Elsewhere, teams will be fighting for valuable points in the race for titles, promotion, and knockout qualification as the season enters a decisive phase.
GOLD CATEGORY
Kutchi Tigers CC vs JACC – Jinja SS Cricket Oval
Defending champions Kutchi Tigers CC travel to Jinja SS Cricket Oval to face JACC in a key Gold Category fixture.
Kutchi Tigers sit third on the table with six points from four matches and remain firmly in the title race despite having played fewer games than most of their rivals. A victory would strengthen their push for a top-two finish.
JACC are sixth with three points from four matches and know a win could propel them into the tightly contested mid-table positions alongside Mukono Warriors and Rounders.
The defending champions dominated this fixture last season, winning all three meetings. They claimed a 20-run victory in the first encounter before following it up with a 30-run DLS win in a rain-affected match and later completed a clean sweep to underline their superiority in the rivalry.
Despite Kutchi Tigers entering as favourites, JACC will be eager to use home advantage to revive their campaign.
Ceylon Lions CC vs Rounders CC – Serenity Oval, Kamengo
Ceylon Lions and Rounders meet in another important Gold Category clash with both sides targeting movement up the standings.
Rounders begin the weekend fifth with five points from five matches after recording two wins, two losses, and one no result. A victory could move them into the top four and strengthen their challenge in the upper half of the table.
Ceylon Lions sit seventh with three points from five matches and are looking to climb out of the relegation zone. Another win would see them draw level with Rounders and significantly improve their chances of a strong second half of the season.
The rivalry was evenly balanced last year. Rounders secured the only on-field victory between the sides, winning by 49 runs after defending 193.
Ceylon Lions later picked up points from a forfeited fixture, while another scheduled meeting was abandoned without a result.
Ceylon Lions are boosted by the return of Charles Musemeza from national team duty in India.
SILVER CATEGORY
Nile CC vs Soroti City CC – Lugogo Oval
Today Nile and Soroti City will lock horns in a crucial Silver Category encounter at Lugogo Oval with survival hopes on the line for both teams.
Nile forfeited their fixture against Avengers last weekend but remain in contention to avoid relegation and if they win today, they will have confirmed survival.
Victory against Soroti City would significantly boost their chances of remaining in Division Two heading into the closing stages of the season.
Soroti City, meanwhile, appear to have found form at the right time. They have won two of their previous matches, including an emphatic victory over St. John’s SS Cricket Club last Sunday by a comprehensive 148 runs. The Eastern-based side currently sits third on the table with seven points from six matches, having registered three wins, two losses, and one no result.
The two sides were in the same group last season, with Nile forfeiting the fixture between them. Despite that, Nile went on to finish second in Group A while Soroti City finished third.
Kutchi Tigers B vs SKLPS CC – Entebbe Cricket Oval
Two teams from the Kutchi community will battle for valuable Silver Category points at Entebbe Cricket Oval.
While both sides competed in Division Two last season, they were drawn into different groups. This season, SKLPS have enjoyed the stronger campaign and enter the weekend fourth on the table with six points from five matches after winning three and losing two.
Kutchi Tigers B have endured a difficult season and find themselves in the relegation zone with just one win from six matches. They have accumulated three points from one victory, three defeats, and two no results.
For SKLPS, victory would strengthen their promotion ambitions and potentially move them into the top two, while Kutchi Tigers B desperately need the points to boost their survival hopes.
BRONZE CATEGORY (B)
Chennai CC vs Kifaru CC – Lugogo Oval
Two of the league’s newest entrants will meet in a high-stakes Bronze Group B clash at Lugogo Oval.
The match could determine who finishes second in the group and advances to the knockout stage while also strengthening their chances of promotion.
Kifaru currently occupies second place on the table with six points from four matches, having won three and lost one. Chennai hold the same record but trail Kifaru on net run rate and sit third.
Kifaru head into the fixture full of confidence after a dominant 266-run victory over Iganga CC, while Chennai suffered a four-wicket defeat to Pak Shaheens in their previous outing.
With only two Group B fixtures remaining, both sides know the importance of securing maximum points.
Iganga CC vs Pak Shaheens CC – GM Sugar Oval
Iganga CC and Pak Shaheens CC will also meet in one of the final Bronze Group B fixtures of the season.
Iganga come into the game after a 34-run victory over Africa Cricket Club, while Pak Shaheens defeated Chennai CC by four wickets to maintain their unbeaten record.
Pak Shaheens currently top the group with seven points from four matches and remain unbeaten. A victory would guarantee them top spot and secure their place in the knockout stage.
