The 2025 Lyca Women’s T20 League bowled off on May 31 in thrilling fashion with dominant displays across all four venues – Lugogo, Entebbe, Florida and GM Sugar Oval – as Uganda’s finest female cricketers launched their campaigns with purpose and power.
Lugogo Oval – Soroti City vs Pioneer (Morning Game)
Soroti City: 107/6 (20 overs) | Pioneer: 77/8 (20 overs)
Result: Soroti City won by 30 runs
Defending champions Soroti City CC began their day with a polished performance against Pioneer CC. Batting first after winning the toss, Soroti’s new faces—Jimia Abdallah Muhammed and Racheal Achan—impressed early. Achan anchored the innings with a gritty 32 off 47 balls, supported by Christine Anayo (20), as Soroti posted 107/6. Despite Penina Natabo’s spirited 3/18, Pioneer faltered in the chase. Patricia Timong (3/8) and Everlyne Anyipo (2/8) were exceptional with the ball, restricting Pioneer to 77/8.

Lugogo Oval – Soroti City vs Pioneer (Afternoon Game)

Result: Soroti City won by 10 wickets
In the rematch, Pioneer opted to bat but endured a nightmare innings, crawling to 28/7 in 20 overs. Mary Nyesigire (12 off 53)* was the lone resistance. Mitchelle Aryago (2/4), along with Timongo and Anyipo, kept the pressure tight. In reply, debutant Jimia Abdallah Muhammed (13)* and Timong (7)* chased down the target in just 4.1 overs, securing a crushing 10-wicket win.

Result: Wanderers won by 14 runs
A rain-reduced 5-over shootout saw Wanderers post 26/2, with captain Naome Kayondo Bagenda scoring 14. Tornado’s reply fell apart spectacularly—skittled for 12/8, undone by five run-outs. Jolly Ichungu starred with sharp fielding and a wicket.

Wanderers turned up the heat, smashing 170/1 in 20 overs. Bagenda was unbeaten on 68, backed by Naome Mbwali (48) and Shadia Nabulime (21), with 33 extras aiding their cause. Tornado folded for just 26 in 13.3 overs.

A gripping Mukono derby saw ACC bowled out for 54, with only Gloria Obukor (24) offering resistance. Fausta Namubiru and Aisha Nakanwagi shared four wickets each. Despite a scare from Jackline Nampaamu’s 4-wicket burst, Mukono scraped to a 2-wicket win.

Mukono posted 103/7, with Resty Nalumansi scoring 30 and extras contributing heavily. ACC’s chase crumbled again, all out for 43. Namubiru (3 wickets), Nakanwagi, and Tracy Nansamba sealed a 60-run win.

JACC, missing stars Immaculate Nakisuuyi and Kevin Awino, managed just 43. Lorna Anyait was outstanding with 3/1 in 4 overs. She returned with the bat to score 18* as Olila eased to 44/2 in 8 overs.

Result: Olila won by 73 runs
Batting first, Olila put up 114/2 in a 17-over match, powered by *Lorna Anyait (37), Asumin Akurut (29), and *Malisa Ariokot (30). Devine Nyamer Gabriella then destroyed JACC’s reply with 3/5 in 4 overs. JACC crawled to 41/3, handing Olila a commanding win.
