Day two of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifiers at Entebbe Cricket Oval saw Kenya and Malawi continue their impressive starts to the tournament with commanding victories.

Kenya’s captain Melvin Khagoitsa delivered a standout all-round performance against Cameroon, while Angela Lumbe anchored Malawi to a comfortable win over Sierra Leone.

Kenya captain Melvin Khagoitsa delivered a brilliant all-round display to steer her side to a dominant 126-run victory over Cameroon at the Entebbe Cricket Oval.

After choosing to bat first, Kenya laid a solid foundation through opener Zainabu Hamisi, who struck a patient 44 off 40 balls.

Khagoitsa then took charge of the innings with an impressive 71 from 59 deliveries, peppering the boundary with nine fours and a six to keep the runs flowing.

Their partnership ensured Kenya kept the scoreboard ticking at a healthy rate, while Janet Makau chipped in with an unbeaten 12 late in the innings to help Kenya post a formidable 161 for 3 in their allotted 20 overs.

Cameroon struggled to build any momentum in reply against Kenya’s disciplined bowling unit.

Early breakthroughs left them reeling at three wickets down within the opening five overs, placing the middle order under immediate pressure.

Menguene Nzie Francoise Clara managed 12, while Akele Amougui Balbine Doris fought for 11, but Cameroon continued to lose wickets at regular intervals.

Khagoitsa later returned to cap a memorable performance with the ball, finishing with remarkable figures of 3 for 3 in 3.1 overs as Cameroon were dismissed for 35 in 15.1 overs.

Malawi vs Sierra Leone – Afternoon Game

A calm knock from Angela Lumbe combined with a sharp bowling performance guided Malawi to a convincing 70-run win over Sierra Leone in the afternoon fixture.

Batting first, Malawi faced early setbacks as Sierra Leone’s bowlers struck in the opening stages.

Lumbe, however, steadied the innings with a patient unbeaten 46 from 57 deliveries, holding the innings together with a composed approach at the crease.

Valuable lower-order runs from Ireen Akonda Joseph, who added 12, helped Malawi recover and post a competitive total of 110 for 7 in their allotted 20 overs.

Sierra Leone’s bowlers showed good control, with Isha Kariatu Bangura delivering an outstanding spell of 3 for 8 from her four overs.

Chasing 111, Sierra Leone struggled to gain momentum against Malawi’s disciplined attack.

Esther Richard led the bowling effort with impressive figures of 4 for 16, while Winnie Matabwa chipped in with three wickets as the batters failed to establish meaningful partnerships.

Only Theresa Tommy offered some resistance with 16 runs, but Sierra Leone were eventually dismissed for 40 in 9.4 overs, handing Malawi a comfortable victory.
