Jinja recently played host to another successful Level One Umpires’ course, as Cricket Uganda continues its mission to elevate officiating standards across the country.
Over a three-day intensive training program, 20 aspiring umpires were equipped with the essential skills needed to officiate cricket matches with confidence and precision.
Mirroring the structure of the Kampala session held a few weeks earlier, the Jinja course combined both theoretical and practical components, including written examinations and on-field assessments.
Participants gained a comprehensive understanding of the Laws of Cricket, match management, and decision-making processes.
They also learned how to handle complex game situations, such as weather interruptions and other unexpected disruptions.
Top performers from this cohort will have the opportunity to progress to ICC Level Two and Level Three courses, paving the way for potential international umpiring assignments.
The training was conducted under the expert guidance of Cricket Uganda’s Umpire Manager, Patrick Makumbi Musoke, and tutor John Trust Mayeku.
Makumbi emphasized that the initiative forms part of a broader strategy to raise the standard of umpiring nationwide.
“By providing officials with the knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to perform consistently, the organization is ensuring a stronger and more professional cricketing ecosystem across Uganda,” Makumbi said.
The Jinja session marked the second of two Level One courses planned for the year, bringing the total number of trained umpires to 42.
With successful courses now completed in both Kampala and Jinja, Cricket Uganda remains committed to extending umpire development programs to every region, nurturing the next generation of officials who will uphold the integrity of the game at all levels.
