Result: Uganda won by 10 wickets
Player of the Match: Kevin Amuge (4 overs, 1 maiden, 5 wickets for 18 runs)

Uganda won the toss and chose to bowl first, exploiting helpful early conditions on a slightly damp surface. The Pearls made three changes to the XI that edged Zimbabwe HPC, with Teddy Oyella (debut), Sarah Tino, and Phiona Kulume (tournament debut) replacing experienced Consy Aweko, seamer Sarah Walaza, and all-rounder Stephanie Nampiina, who was rested due to a minor back strain.

Debutant Teddy Oyella was handed her cap by Nampiina in a special pre-match moment and marked her first appearance with a disciplined four-over spell, conceding just 7 runs, including a superb maiden.

But it was Kevin Amuge who stole the show. The seamer ripped through Sierra Leone’s top and middle order, registering a stunning five-wicket haul (5/18 in 4 overs) — her best return in Uganda colours. She was ably supported by Sarah Akiteng, who picked up 3 wickets for 0 runs, including two in her first over and the final scalp in the 12th over. Sierra Leone’s batting never recovered from the early collapse and were bowled out for 32 in 11.1 overs, despite a last wicket stand of 16 runs.

In reply, Uganda’s opening pair — captain Janet Mbabazi (19)* and Esther Iloku (12)* — calmly knocked off the runs in just 4.5 overs, ensuring another net run rate boost. Iloku also donned the gloves for this fixture in place of ‘Birthday Girl’ Kevin Awino, who remained in the outfield.

A delighted Amuge, named Player of the Match, said after the game: “We executed our bowling plans perfectly. I just focused on hitting my areas, and the rewards followed. I’m happy to contribute and excited for the Brazil challenge tomorrow.” The Soroti-bred cricketer also took the match ball for her feat.

With a perfect record and a soaring net run rate, the Victoria Pearls top the standings and now turn their focus to Brazil, their next opponents tomorrow, June 7 at 10:00 AM (Gahanga A Oval).
