Gulu City | May 1, 2026
Cricket Uganda (CU) confirmed that the 22nd edition of the Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week will be staged in Gulu City from May 2nd to May 9th, continuing efforts to strengthen and expand cricket across the country to align with the new Sports Act.
For the second year in a row, Northern Uganda will host the flagship schools competition, following a successful 2025 edition in Gulu and earlier tournaments held in Soroti City in 2023 and 2024.

The return to the Northern Cricket Hub further reinforces the region’s growing importance in Uganda’s cricket development structure, with Gulu High School once again confirmed as the official host venue.
This year’s event features an expanded format, growing from 16 to 20 participating schools.
Teams drawn from six cricket regions will converge in Gulu, underlining the competition’s rising competitiveness and wider national reach.
This edition gives us another opportunity to showcase the depth of talent within girls’ cricket in Uganda,
said Davis Turinawe, Cricket Uganda’s Development Manager.
The increasing number of participating schools reflects the steady growth of the game.
We are grateful to our sponsors for their continued support, and to Gulu High School together with the Northern Cricket Hub for once again hosting us.
As CU’s premier girls’ development tournament, the Girls Schools Cricket Week remains a key platform for talent identification, player development, and regional exposure.
With Uganda building towards the ICC U19 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers later this year, the competition is expected to play a central role in shaping the next generation of national team players.
Defending champions Olila High School return with ambitions of retaining their title after last year’s triumph over Light Secondary School.

The Soroti-based side, now four-time winners, will be eager to reassert their dominance despite a setback against Light SS in the recent Eastern regional qualifiers.
Traditional heavyweights Jinja SS, record eight-time champions, and Gayaza High School, inaugural champions and four-time winners, are expected to mount strong title challenges.
Hosting this tournament for a second consecutive year is a proud milestone for Gulu,”
noted Grace Mutyagaba, CU’s Northern Region Development Officer.
Beyond the competition itself, what stands out most is the strong sense of community involvement from scorers and umpires to grounds staff all working seamlessly to support the event.
This collective effort continues to strengthen the cricket structure in the region while also deepening local engagement as communities increasingly embrace and connect with the game.
The 2026 edition will also welcome five new entrants, including Soroti Senior Secondary School, St Theresa Girls Senior Secondary School, Bwala Senior Secondary School, Rwenzori High School, and St Cornelius Senior Secondary School, alongside returning side Kasese Senior Secondary School, further highlighting the tournament’s expanding footprint across Uganda.

About the Girls Schools Cricket Week
Established in 2001, with Gayaza High School crowned the inaugural champions, the Girls’ Schools Cricket Week stands as Cricket Uganda’s longest-running girls’ youth tournament.
Over the years, it has become a key platform for identifying and nurturing talent for Uganda’s national women’s teams.
With continued support from partners such as Sky View Beverages and various regional stakeholders, the competition has grown into a powerful driver of girls’ participation in cricket, inspiring young players across the country to pursue excellence both on and off the field.
Cricket Uganda has invited media, partners, and fans to Gulu for what promises to be an exciting week of cricket action, talent discovery, and community celebration.
In this edition, we are proud to have several partners on board.
For the third consecutive year, Sky View continues to lead with its sponsorship, support that has even expanded this year.
They are joined by other key partners, including Movit as the Hygiene Partner, Batball Uganda Limited as the Broadcast Partner, and Skooli as the Logistics Partner.
