Cricket Uganda is pleased to officially announce the successful acquisition of 15 acres of land in Nakasajja – Gayaza, approximately 27 kilometres from Lugogo, to develop the country’s first permanent Home of Cricket.
This breakthrough finally ends an over 20-year search for a dedicated home for the sport.
UCA Chairman Jackson Kavuma said this moment carries generational weight for the sport.
This marks a historic moment for Ugandan cricket. The Board stood united, and I commend CEO Evelyn Kabongerwa and her team for securing legitimate land that is free of disputes or encumbrances. Though one club, Tornado C.C., did not consent for personal reasons, the overwhelming majority approved the acquisition through the Land Fund. All due diligence, including surveys and environmental checks, passed smoothly. Uganda cricket can now breathe.
Cricket Uganda also acknowledges the significant role of the Land Board, led by Mr Ketan Shukla, whose leadership has been critical in securing this site.
“We faced many challenges getting this land, and we are delighted that we finally have it,” said Shukla. “Now we start phase two of this development. When you go seeking support with nothing, people ignore you. But if you go with land, partners listen. We are now mobilising combined efforts to develop this fast. Our next mission is to convert this land into a world-class cricket facility.”
Cricket Uganda CEO Evelyn Kabongerwa Shinyekwa confirmed that the process was deep, systematic and supported by broader expertise.
We have been looking actively since last year, including guidance from colleagues like Mr Richard Okia, who engaged several land sourcing channels. We evaluated multiple options. Nakasajja stood out as it is 27km from Lugogo, 1km from the trading centre, has a natural stream ideal for water harvesting, and the terrain naturally lends itself to sports. The scenery is natural, green and perfect for an iconic cricket environment.
Mr Richard Okia, who led the land identification team, reinforced the decision.
We inspected several sites in Nakasajja, Gayaza, Mukono and Kalagi before arriving at this final choice on September 30. We involved different Board members and technical officers during the entire process. After several inspections and verification phases, the Nakasajja land consistently remained the most ideal option.
The milestone was achieved on November 1 2025, when Cricket Uganda officially signed off on the land acquisition at Lugogo.
The Land Board will soon announce details of the groundbreaking and phased development plan.

Cricket Uganda congratulates the Board, Member Clubs, Technical Teams, past leaderships and the entire cricket community on this historic moment.
Ugandan cricket now has a home. The next era begins.
