Cricket Uganda is proud to announce its support for the upcoming Rotary Cancer Run 2026, joining hands with the Rotaract Club of Kampala South to champion the fight against cancer.

As part of this commitment, Cricket Uganda has purchased 50 running kits to support the cause.

The marquee fundraising event is scheduled for this Sunday, August 30, 2026, starting at 6:00 AM at the Kololo Independence Grounds and in major towns across the country.

Cricket Uganda staff and Muhwenda Emmanuel Mukisa, President of the Rotaract Club of Kampala South, pose proudly with the running kits ahead of this Sunday’s Rotary Cancer Run.

Why Run? The Fight Against Cancer

Uganda faces a rising cancer crisis, with cancer ranking among the leading causes of death, largely driven by late diagnoses, limited treatment options, and extremely high care costs.

The Rotary Cancer Run is a vital national movement dedicated to changing this narrative by raising awareness, promoting early detection, and expanding local treatment infrastructure:

  • Funding Critical Infrastructure: All proceeds from this year’s run go directly towards completing the state-of-the-art cancer treatment centre at Nsambya Hospital, which aims to house advanced technologies like linear accelerators for comprehensive care.
  • Promoting Early Detection: The initiative emphasises community health education, encouraging regular cancer screenings because early detection saves lives.
  • A Movement of Solidarity: More than just a race, the event unites survivors, families, athletes, and communities to stand together in hope and solidarity against cancer.

Expressing his excitement about the collaboration, Muhwenda Emmanuel Mukisa, President of the Rotaract Club of Kampala South, noted in the video:

“Today we are here at Cricket Uganda, and we are very excited that they have supported the Rotaract Club of Kampala South with 50 kits… We believe that all cricketers are going to be part of this event. We call upon everyone to purchase this kit at 30,000 and support this cause.”

Highlighting the importance of community engagement and health advocacy, our CEO, Evelyn K.B Shinyekwa, shared:

“Sport goes beyond the boundaries of the pitch; it is about building a healthier, stronger community. We are thrilled to partner with the Rotaract Club of Kampala South by acquiring 50 kits for this Sunday’s Cancer Run. We encourage all cricketers, fans, and sports enthusiasts to come out in large numbers to Kololo Independence Grounds as we run to restore hope and support this noble cause.”

Cricket Uganda calls upon all players, stakeholders, and fans to purchase their kits, join the movement, and be part of this impactful national event. Let us run together to make a difference!
