KAMPALA – In a bid to expand the national footprint of the game and explore how sport can catalyse holistic youth development, Cricket Uganda leadership today met with representatives from Compassion International Uganda for an initial exploratory discussion.
The meeting provided an opportunity for key leaders from both organisations to exchange ideas and discuss how grassroots sports development could align with child-focused community transformation.
Representing Cricket Uganda were Chief Executive Officer Evelyn K.B. Shinyekwa, Honorary Secretary Denis Musali, assisted by People, Culture, and Communications Lead Edgar Kazibwe.
They met with Compassion International Uganda’s Strategic Alliance Specialist, Elijah Male, and PR Strategist Agwang Aidah.
As a gesture of goodwill to mark the meeting, the Cricket Uganda team presented official national team jerseys to the Compassion International Uganda representatives.
Exploring Shared Values & Strategic Reach
During the interaction, the leadership teams highlighted the potential synergy between grassroots sports promotion and youth empowerment programs.
By exploring avenues to introduce cricket to broader communities through child-focused frameworks, both organizations recognized the shared potential to build character, resilience, and life skills in young people.
Speaking on the strategic intent behind the engagement, Cricket Uganda Honorary Secretary Denis Musali noted:
“Cricket is far more than just a sport—it is a powerful tool for transformation, discipline, and character building. Compassion International Uganda is present in 125 districts across the country, giving them a level of reach that we currently do not have. Establishing a strategic collaboration with them will put Cricket Uganda on the correct path toward meeting our national Sports Law requirements for countrywide coverage. By exploring these synergies, we can introduce more children to the game, foster holistic youth development, and align with their core mission of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name.”
Compassion International Uganda works through local church partners to equip, protect, and empower youth across the country.
Integrating sports into child development frameworks presents an engaging platform to foster physical health, social integration, and cognitive growth.
Cricket Uganda remains committed to seeking out strategic relationships that broaden the sport’s impact across all regions.
