Cricket Uganda hosted a landmark two-day Strategic Workshop on 14–15 November 2025 under the theme “Taking Stock – Building on the 2021–2025 Strategic Journey.”

The session brought together board members, management, technical teams, partners, and representatives of the cricket fraternity to reflect on achievements from the past five years and to set the course for the next strategic cycle.

A moment of Reflection and Renewal

Cricket Uganda Chairman Jackson Kavuma gives his remarks at the 2025 Strategic Meeting

In his opening remarks, Chairman Jackson Kavuma welcomed participants with a call to unity and discipline:

Over the last strategic period, we’ve seen real progress – stronger performances on the field, better governance, more structured programs, and a growing presence for Ugandan cricket both regionally and internationally. These are achievements we can all celebrate. The next five years are about building stronger structures, empowering our people, and creating opportunities for the next generation of cricketers. One vision, one team, one goal.

Day 1 of the workshop was dedicated to reflection and performance review. Participants revisited the 2021–2025 Strategic Plan, analysing key performance indicators, successes, and challenges.

Group discussions produced a Success & Challenge Matrix, while theme leads presented detailed assessments across High Performance, Development, Finance, Media and Public Relations, Marketing, and Infrastructure.

The day also featured a session on Global Trends in Cricket Development, led by Mr Justine Ligyalingi of ICC Africa, which offered insights into international best practices.

Structured exercises in SWOT and PESTEL analysis helped participants identify internal strengths and weaknesses alongside external opportunities and threats, culminating in a situational report to guide future planning.

Positioning for 2026–2030

Day 2 shifted focus to strategic positioning for the next five years. Sessions included:

  • Financial Performance Review: Assessing revenues, sponsorships, and expenditures
  • Stakeholder Mapping: Identifying key influencers and partners critical to growth
  • Governance and Sustainability: Strengthening accountability structures
  • Risk Management: Drafting a proactive risk register
  • Visioning Exercise – “CU @2030”: Imagining the desired state of Ugandan cricket by 2030
  • Strategic Priorities: Setting objectives across High Performance, Development, Finance & Operations, Media & Marketing, and Infrastructure
  • Resource Mobilisation Plan: Developing funding strategies to sustain growth

Outputs from these sessions included a draft vision statement, a list of success drivers, and strategic goals and priorities that will form the backbone of the upcoming plan.

Collective Ownership

Reflecting on the workshop, Cricket Uganda Honorary Secretary Denis Musali emphasised the importance of collaboration:

The CU strategy session was very important for us in moving forward as an entity. We used the session to look back and connect some dots going forward. We had a great group of individuals coming together and thinking about the ways Cricket Uganda can move forward for the next five years. The session was only the beginning of the process because all the ideas in the room have to be put together in one document that will become our creed for the next five years.

Adding to this, Cricket Uganda Head of High Performance and Pathways Richard Okia, highlighted the practical impact of the discussions:

The strategic sessions were insightful, with everyone contributing key actions. This will guide Cricket Uganda from 2026 to 2030 in growing the game, nurturing talent, developing facilities and showcasing Uganda’s excellence globally.

Looking Ahead

The workshop concluded with a shared commitment to discipline, consistency, and collaboration.

The outputs will be consolidated into the Cricket Uganda Strategic Plan 2026–2030, a roadmap to guide growth, sustainability, and international competitiveness.
