Today Cricket Uganda conducted a Scorers’ Course aimed at enhancing the capacity of match officials across the country.
The training attracted 20 participants — 14 from the Kampala Metropolitan area, two from Gulu, two from Lira, one from Kumi, and one from Masindi.
During the course, trainees were introduced to both traditional book-scoring techniques and modern digital scoring methods.
This dual approach equips participants with the skills needed to handle a wide range of scoring assignments at different levels of competition.
The facilitators of the course guided participants through both theoretical and practical components of the course.
This course also equips scorers with the skills needed to effectively manage both domestic and international tournaments, while also preparing them for future assignments where their expertise will be required.
In addition, all participants will receive official accounts to enable them to carry out online scoring during future matches, ensuring consistency and accuracy in data collection and reporting.
Cricket Uganda’s Development Manager, Davis Turinawe, who also oversees the Education Department, praised the initiative, noting:
It is encouraging to see people embracing technology alongside traditional scoring methods
We believe these newly trained scorers will play a vital role in bridging existing gaps in both electronic and manual scoring.
The course marks another step forward in Cricket Uganda’s commitment to developing technical expertise nationwide.
