Cricket Uganda successfully concluded its nationwide capacity-building program, reaching all 137 districts across Uganda.

This landmark initiative trained District Sports Officers (DSOs) and primary school teachers in foundation coaching and umpiring, embedding cricket into the education system and ensuring the sport’s accessibility across the country.

The program was rolled out comprehensively, covering more that 70% of the districts of Uganda.

Training sessions were conducted in partnership with district authorities and schools, ensuring that cricket is now represented nationwide.

The regions covered include Kampala, Lango, Karamoja, Teso, Sebei, Bugisu, West Nile, Acholi, Bukedi, Busoga, Bunyoro, Rwenzori, Ankole, Kigezi, Wakiso, Masaka, and Mukono.

This extensive coverage fulfils the National Council of Sports benchmark of 70% national reach, positioning cricket as one of Uganda’s most widely accessible sports.

Strong attendance was recorded in every region, with hundreds of educators empowered to take cricket back to their communities.

Regional hubs and alumni networks have been established to ensure continuity and long-term growth, and with 137 districts covered, cricket now meets national requirements for inclusivity and grassroots development.

Capacity building is not just about teaching the game – it is about embedding cricket into the education system, empowering teachers and sports officers, and ensuring every child has the opportunity to play. With 137 districts covered, Cricket Uganda has laid a strong foundation for grassroots cricket development nationwide.

The program not only strengthens the sport’s presence in schools and communities but also ensures Uganda meets international and national benchmarks for inclusivity and coverage.

Uganda now stands as a model for capacity building in African cricket, with every region empowered to nurture future talent.
