Kiyindi Blasters pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the Sabula T20 Cricket Challenge, edging table leaders Katosi Strikers by four runs in a tense low-scoring contest at the Florida Cricket Ground.

Coming into the match rooted at the bottom of the table, the Blasters produced a spirited performance to defend a modest total and halt the momentum of the tournament’s most dominant side.

The victory was particularly significant for Kiyindi, who had lost all their previous six matches. Their breakthrough win also handed Katosi Strikers only their second defeat of the tournament.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat, Kiyindi Blasters struggled to build meaningful partnerships and were eventually bowled out for 83 in 17.2 overs.

Martin Bwogi top-scored with a fighting 23 off 20 balls, striking three fours and a six to give his side something to defend. Yahaya Makomeri contributed 9, while Loykeen Bamuturaki chipped in with a quick 8.

Katosi Strikers’ bowlers kept things tight, with Steven Othieno leading the attack with impressive figures of 4 for 18.

Tom Adupu and Eric Mukisa supported well, picking up two wickets each to keep the Blasters to a manageable total.

In reply, Katosi Strikers appeared to be in control early on, with Eric Mukisa scoring a brisk 30 off 21 balls.

However, the chase quickly unraveled once wickets began to fall.

Martin Bwogi then turned the match on its head with a sensational spell, claiming 5 wickets for just 7 runs in 3.5 overs to rip through the Strikers’ middle and lower order.

He was well supported by Andrew Hajuguju, who delivered a disciplined spell of 2 for 12 in four overs as Kiyindi bowled out the table leaders for 79 in 16 overs.

The result marked a memorable moment for Kiyindi Blasters as they not only secured their first win of the campaign but also toppled the competition’s top-ranked side in a thrilling encounter.
