Wairaka Hurricanes were crowned champions of the Jinja Independence Sixes Cup 2026 after winning all four of their matches to finish the tournament unbeaten with eight points.

In a tournament that was played at jinja SS cricket oval as a way of honoring the 64 years o since Uganda got independence.

The tournament featured five teams and the five-team tournament followed a double round-robin format, with the team finishing top of the standings crowned champions. The Hurricanes dominated the competition, recording four victories to claim the title.

They opened their campaign with an eight-wicket victory over Bugembe Warriors before defeating Wakitaka Gladiators by nine wickets in their second game.

The Hurricanes maintained their winning run with another nine-wicket victory over Kakira Barbarians before wrapping up their campaign with a 31-run win against Budondo Pirates.

Speaking at the conclusion of the tournament, Sadam Oyaga said the competition was part of the development programmes aimed at growing cricket in the region.

“By holding such tournaments, we give our young players an opportunity to grow in the game, apply themselves on the field and develop their game awareness for the benefit of the entire region,”

Oyaga said.

He also thanked the sponsors and organisers for supporting the tournament, including Mr Keswala, who sponsored the trophy, and Mr Gopal Dhudarejiaya, who sponsored lunch for the participants.

The tournament was organised by Jinja Association of Cricket Clubs (JACC) in partnership with Cricket Uganda as part of their continued efforts to develop the game and provide young players with more opportunities to compete.
