After about four years without a national cricket league match at Ndejje SS Cricket Oval, Nile Cricket Club will head to Ndejje SS this Saturday to face Tornado Cricket Club in Division Two of the Cricket Uganda Women’s T20 National League.
Both teams come into the game on the back of defeats, with each looking to register their first victory of the season.
Nile lost twice to Africa Cricket Club on Day Six, falling by 24 runs in the morning game before suffering a 10-run defeat in the afternoon encounter.
Tornado, meanwhile, had a difficult outing in Jinja, losing to JACC by 134 runs in the morning game before suffering a nine-wicket defeat in the afternoon.
With both teams yet to taste victory this season, Saturday’s encounter presents an opportunity for either side to get their campaign back on track.
Nile will be particularly eager to make their return to the women’s league count after missing out on the competition in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
Having stayed away from the league for several seasons, they will be hoping to make a strong statement on their return.
For Tornado, their captain Blessing Noeline Apio will be one to watch as they look to turn their fortunes around, with her all-round contributions likely to be important to the team’s chances.
Nile, meanwhile, will look to captain Vivian Nganda and Catherine Zawede to provide solid contributions as they seek their first win of the campaign.
Both teams are predominantly made up of schoolgirls, highlighting the role of schools in providing a foundation for women’s cricket in Uganda.
With both sides desperate for a win, the clash at Ndejje Oval promises to be an important contest as the Division Two campaign continues.
