The Victoria Pearls produced a resilient all-round display to edge out regional rivals Tanzania by five runs in a thrilling Capricorn Series Quadrangular clash at the FNB NCG.
After Tanzania captain Neema Pius won the toss and elected to field first, Uganda was tasked with setting a defending total on a competitive surface.
The opening pair of Janet Mbabazi and Stephanie Nampiina faced disciplined early bowling from the Tanzanian attack.

Mbabazi fell for 8 in the fifth over via a run-out executed by Hudaa Omary and Perice Kamunya, while Nampiina was trapped leg-before-wicket by Kamunya for 15 in the seventh over, leaving Uganda at 39/2.
Proscovia Alako looked to inject momentum with a brisk 20 off 17 balls featuring three boundaries before she was caught off Kamunya in the 11th over.

When Esther Iloku was run out for 5 shortly after, Uganda found themselves in a precarious position at 65/4 in the 13th over.
However, a crucial middle-order partnership between Ritah Musamali and Immaculate Nakisuuyi transformed the innings and swung the momentum back in the Victoria Pearls’ favour.
Musamali anchored the innings with a top-score of 37 off 36 deliveries, cracking five crisp boundaries.

At the other end, Nakisuuyi unleashed a destructive counter-attack, smashing 33 off just 21 balls at an impressive strike rate of 157.14.
Her aggressive knock included two fours and two towering sixes before falling in the final over to Nasra Saidi.

Uganda closed their 20 overs with a fighting total of 132/6. Perice Kamunya was the standout bowler for Tanzania, claiming brilliant figures of 2/14 across her four overs, supported by Saidi, who picked up 2/33.
Chasing a target of 133 for victory, Tanzania made a formidable start through their opening pairing of Saum Mtae and captain Neema Pius.

The duo constructed a threatening 63-run partnership across the first nine overs, putting the Victoria Pearls under immense pressure.
Mtae played an anchoring role with 31 off 31 deliveries, hitting three fours and a six, while Pius attacked the bowling to top-score for her side with a stroke-filled 38 off 30 balls, featuring four boundaries and a maximum.

With the match slipping away, Uganda’s bowling attack displayed remarkable character to trigger a middle-order collapse.
Medium pacer Asumin Akurut provided the vital breakthrough in the ninth over by having Mtae caught by Malisa Ariokot.

Sarah Walaza then struck a massive blow in the 11th over, removing the dangerous Pius caught by Nakisuuyi, with the score at 78/2.
Akurut struck again in the 14th over to dismiss Hudaa Omary for 5, while veteran off-spinner Consylate Aweko tightened the screws by bowling Perice Kamunya for 22 in the 17th over, leaving Tanzania at 111/4.
As the required run rate escalated in the death overs, panic set into the Tanzanian ranks.
Sharp fielding from the Victoria Pearls resulted in crucial run-outs of Nasra Saidi (9) and Aisha Ally (2).

Nakisuuyi then delivered a brilliant final over under pressure, bowling Linda Massawe for a duck and having Agnes Qwele caught by Musamali for 6.
Despite a late boundary from Sheila Kizito (6 not out off 2 balls), Uganda’s bowlers successfully defended their total, restricting Tanzania to 127/8 to secure a hard-fought five-run victory.
