Day Seven of the Great Lakes Men’s T20 at Lugogo Cricket Oval produced another day of high-scoring cricket, with Mburo Blasters ending Kyoga Avengers’ hopes of an immediate return to winning ways before Victoria Strikers completed back-to-back victories with a commanding win over Bunyonyi Warriors.

After being put in to bat, Mburo Blasters amassed a tournament-best 234/6 from their 20 overs.

Charles Musemeza laid the platform with a sparkling 75 off 40 balls, striking eight fours and four sixes.

Fahad Mutagana contributed 37 before Riazat Ali Shah unleashed a brutal 54 off just 24 deliveries, featuring six maximums.

Steven Wabwose and Edwin Nuwagaba added valuable late runs with unbeaten knocks of 20 and 21 respectively to take Mburo beyond the 230 mark.

Gerald Olipa was the standout bowler for Kyoga Avengers, claiming an impressive five-wicket haul despite conceding 50 runs.

In reply, Kyoga Avengers lost Conrad Lubwama and Gerald Olipa inside the opening two overs but recovered through Cyrus Kakuru, who struck a superb 77 off 43 balls.

Ronald Lutaaya made 33, Robert Owili blasted 23 off eight deliveries, and skipper Juma Miyaji remained unbeaten on 45.

However, the asking rate proved too steep as Mburo’s bowlers held their nerve. Steven Wabwose returned economical figures of 2/22, while Sowobi Yunus and Riazat Ali Shah picked up two wickets apiece to restrict Kyoga to 208/6 and secure a 26-run victory.

Ssesazi leads Strikers to second successive victory

The afternoon encounter saw Victoria Strikers continue their resurgence with a comprehensive 59-run victory over Bunyonyi Warriors.

Batting first, the Strikers raced out of the blocks thanks to Simon Ssesazi, who smashed 58 off only 24 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes.

Amos Ahurra anchored the innings with 40 off 34 deliveries, while Robert Ajuna added a quick 19 and Mathew Musinguzi struck an unbeaten 22 off 11 balls.

Despite picking up wickets at regular intervals, Bunyonyi’s bowlers struggled with discipline, conceding 20 wides as Victoria posted 218/8. Johnathan Nyiiro claimed three wickets, while Musa Majid Ramathan and Kassim Adam picked up two and one respectively.

Chasing 219, Bunyonyi started aggressively through Robinson Obuya and Anas Baig, but regular wickets derailed the chase.

Joseph Baguma top-scored with 31, while Anas Baig made 30 and Musa Majid Ramathan remained unbeaten on 18.

Victoria’s bowlers shared the spoils, with captain Pius Oloka producing an excellent spell of 4/14 from four overs.

Jaffer Ochaya matched him with four wickets of his own, while Christopher Kidega and Mathew Musinguzi chipped in with one wicket each as Bunyonyi were bowled out for 159 in 18 overs.

Simon Ssesazi was deservedly named Player of the Match for providing the foundation with a blistering half-century.
