Cricket Uganda is the official governing body responsible for the administration, promotion, and development of cricket in Uganda.

Built on a commitment to excellence, transparency, and high performance, we manage our national teams—the Cricket Cranes, Baby Cricket Cranes (U19) and the Victoria Pearls, Baby Victoria Pearls (U19) —and serve as the primary link between the sport, local communities, and the global cricket stage.

Key Milestones

Early 20th Century: Cricket was introduced to schools by British colonial administrators in 1900s.

1930s: First School Cricket Week held between four schools.

1950s: Five-team tournament began, involving teams from different racial and religious groups.

1960s: Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania formed an East Africa team.

1966: Uganda became an ICC Associate.

1975: East Africa team played in the inaugural World Cup, featuring two Ugandans: Sam Walusimbi and John Nagenda (RIP)

1998: Uganda became an Associate Member of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

2000: Women’s cricket started gaining momentum with the establishment of competitions.

2004: Under-19 team participated in the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh.

2006: Under-19 team participated in the Under-19 World Cup.

2017: Uganda women’s team win African title in Windhoek, Namibia.

2018: Uganda’s women’s team took part in the ICC Global Qualifiers in the Netherlands

2022: Under-19 team participated in the Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies.

2023: Uganda’s senior team – Cricket Cranes qualified for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Victoria Pearls also qualified for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers in December 2023 after beating Tanzania in the African regional qualifiers.

2024: Cricket Cranes played in the World Cup in the USA and West Indies. Victoria Pearls played at the Global Qualifiers in Abu Dhabi in April and May.
