Rwanda U19 won the toss and elected to bat first, making a steady start through Fabrice Kwizera (13) and Cedrick Yuzuzo (17). However, Uganda’s bowlers quickly tightened their grip on the game with regular breakthroughs.

Captain Jasper Nziza Karoro contributed 20 runs, while Elise Gihozo anchored the innings with a resilient 51 off 79 balls, striking seven boundaries to keep Rwanda competitive. Patrick Iradukunda also added a quick unbeaten 17 towards the end of the innings.

Uganda’s bowling attack once again delivered a disciplined performance. Richard Sohera led from the front with an economical spell of 2 wickets for 19 runs in 9 overs, earning him the Player of the Match award.

He was well supported by Larry Itagi and Munigwa Hamid, who both claimed 2 wickets each, while Ochan Felix and Eric Mukisa chipped in with a wicket apiece. Rwanda U19 were eventually bowled out for 168 in 41.5 overs.

Chasing 169 for victory, Uganda U19 lost Devansh Patel early for 3, but Samuel Ahaisibwe (18) and Eric Mukisa steadied the innings with a positive partnership.

Mukisa Eric top-scored with a composed 43 off 80 deliveries, while Robert Owilli added 34 to guide Uganda closer to the target. Despite a few middle-order wickets, Uganda maintained control of the chase.

Sohera Richard capped off an excellent all-round performance with an unbeaten 19, while captain Daniel Alex Rubangakene remained not out on 17 as Uganda reached 172/5 in 36.4 overs to secure victory.

Rwanda U19 showed improvement with the ball, with Eric Hagenimana picking up 2 wickets, while Itangishaka Gilbert, Jean Paul Rukundo, and Mugisha Izere Bruce claimed one wicket each.

Uganda U19 Coach Jonathan Ssebanja reflected on the performance, saying:

“Our target was to limit Rwanda to less than 140 runs, but we somehow failed. We made some changes by bringing in Larry Itagi today and this is good for rotation. Our target is to win all games, but we clearly know that the next game against Emerging Hippos will be hard because it is right below Uganda A, so they will bring the challenge, but we will embrace it.”

Rwanda U19 Head Coach Landry Rurangwa praised his side’s effort despite the result, saying:

“I love the way the boys have played today. There were many positives despite a few fumbles that gave Uganda many runs. We left out almost nine overs, which is quite a lot, and it is something we should be looking forward to improving. The tournament serves to improve the players, but also to prepare them for the bigger upcoming tournaments.”

The victory gives Uganda U19 strong momentum in the High-Performance Series 2026 as the hosts continue to showcase consistency with both bat and ball.
