Uganda U19 won the toss and elected to bat first but had an early setback with Devansh Patel falling for a duck in the opening over.

Samuel Ahaisibwe (6) also departed early, leaving Uganda under pressure.

However, a steady rebuilding phase followed, anchored by a composed 79 off 110 balls from

Owilli Robert, who held the innings together.

He found support from Abraiz Mir Ali (37), with the pair guiding Uganda past the 150 mark.

Contributions from Eric Mukisa (22), Richard Sohera (15), and captain Daniel Rubangakene (24)

ensured Uganda posted a competitive total of 231 despite regular wickets.

Extras also played a significant role, contributing 39 runs.

In response, Rwanda U19’s chase never fully gained momentum after losing Cedrick Yuzuzo for

a duck in the opening over.

Captain Jasper Nziza Karoro (29) and Onesme Kwizera (24) showed some resistance, but

consistent breakthroughs from Uganda’s bowlers kept Rwanda on the back foot.

Cricket UgandaThe standout performer with the ball was Hamid Munigwa, who delivered a superb spell of 4

wickets for 28 runs. He was well supported by Ochan Felix, who picked up 3 wickets, and Isiko

Kenneth, who claimed 2. Sohera Richard also impressed with an economical spell, conceding just

11 runs in 9 overs while taking a wicket.

Rwanda U19 were eventually bowled out for 112 in 36.3 overs, falling well short of the 232-run

target.

Reflecting on day one, Rwanda U19 Head Coach Landry Rurangwa said,

“So far the journey has been very good. We are excited to come to Uganda and play. Despite a

loss in the opener, this is just a new group playing in Rwandan colours. It was a tough day the

bowling was good, mostly from Mugisha and David. For the first time, lessons have been carried

forward, and the batting collapse from today’s game is something we hope to improve in the

upcoming matches.”

Uganda U19 Head Coach Baraka Turyamwesimrisa added,

“Rwanda has given us a very good challenge and it is good opposition, especially as one of the

teams we are going to face in the Division Two qualifiers.

The game started on a bad note, we lost two wickets early, but the boys showed composure and

temperament. One of the boxes we didn’t tick was restricting them to less than 100 runs, which

we shall work on.

Uganda U19 Capatin Daniel Alex Rubangakene said:

“In the first three overs we lost early wickets, but our number three and four helped us to build a

solid total. We made a few misfields, but we hope to improve in the upcoming games.”

This comprehensive victory gives Uganda U19 a strong start in the High-Performance Series

2026, showcasing both batting depth and bowling discipline.
