Day three of the Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week saw teams booking their places in the Super 8 stage, with the final round of group matches set for tomorrow.

Masaka SS handed St John’s their first defeat of the tournament in the morning fixture, while Jinja SS and Olila continued their unbeaten runs in their respective groups.

Elsewhere, Gayaza High School finally broke their losing streak, registering their first win after three straight defeats.

MORNING

Iganga SS vs Gulu High – @Gulu High Ground

Iganga SS won by 104 runs


Nile region side Iganga SS secure their first victory of the tournament in dominant fashion. After opening their campaign with two losses, Iganga bounced back strongly against hosts Gulu High.

Put in to bat, Mariam Akullu anchored the innings with an unbeaten 43 off 59, while Josephine Babirye added 31 not out to guide them to 146/4.

They went on to bowl out Gulu High for 42 to seal a comprehensive 104-run victory.

Eight-time record winners Jinja SS registered their lowest total of the tournament (72 all out) but still had enough to overcome the debutants St. Theresa.

Despite a frustrating batting display, their bowling attack delivered, with captain Sheila Namagoba leading from the front with four wickets, while Mariam Biribawa picked up two.

The victory keeps Jinja SS, already through to the Super Eight, top of Group C on net run rate.

Light SS continued their dominant run with a commanding 107-run win over four-time champions Gayaza High. Gayaza showed discipline with the ball to restrict Light SS, but their batting completely collapsed as they were bowled out for just 8 runs in 10.4 overs.

The win confirms Light SS’ place in the Super Eight as they top the group with a maximum nine points.

Defending champions Olila HS moved to the top of Group A and sealed qualification for the Super Eight with a 79-run victory over St. James SS.

After electing to bat, Josephine Icumar starred with 51 off 50 the first half-century of the day to set up a strong total of 154.

Sacred Heart SS secured a convincing 37-run win over Ndejje SS to book their place in the Super Eight.

After being put in to bat, they posted 94/8 before delivering a disciplined bowling performance to defend the total.

Michelle Angel Alanyo picked up three wickets to guide her side to their third win of the tournament.

St. John’s SS suffered their first defeat of the tournament after a four-wicket loss to Masaka SS.

Batting first, they were bowled out for 57 in 13 overs and failed to defend the total as Masaka reached 58/6 in 14 overs.

Despite the loss, St. John’s remain top of Group D and have qualified for the Super Eight, with Masaka SS also progressing in second place and a win for Masaka in their final game tomorrow morning will help them seal the top spot.

Jinja Senior Secondary School handed Sacred Heart SS first loss in a low-scoring contest to secure a hard-fought 14-run victory.

After being put in to bat, Jinja SSS recovered from an early collapse of 6/2, with Ruth Mary Tumwebaze anchoring the innings with 29 off 42, while Sheila Namagoba added 12 to help them post 71/4 in their allotted overs.

In reply, Sacred Heart SS showed brief resistance through Joan Agenorwot’s 19, but disciplined bowling from Asha Mukite (2 wickets), Rashidah Tikabula (2), and Sheila Namagoba (2) kept them in check.

Sacred Heart were eventually bowled out for 57 in 11.5 overs, falling 14 runs short.

Light Secondary School delivered a dominant all-round performance to secure a convincing 49-run victory over Soroti SS and remain unbeaten.

After being put in to bat, Light SS struggled early, losing quick wickets, but Ruth Kulume steadied the innings with a composed 28 not out, while Joyce Mary Arugo chipped in with 18 to guide them to 72/9.

In response, Soroti SS crumbled under relentless bowling pressure.

Sarah Tino starred with the ball, claiming 3 wickets, while Ritah Alio also picked up 3 and Teddy Anyait added 2 to dismantle the batting lineup.

Soroti SS were bowled out for just 23 in 8.2 overs, handing Light SS a comprehensive win.

Masaka Secondary School held their nerve in a low-scoring encounter to secure a narrow 12-run victory over Iganga SS to remain unbeaten.

Batting first, Masaka SS struggled to build momentum, but Florence Kaijuka top-scored with 13 while Kevin Mukite added an unbeaten 15 to push them to 57/6.

In reply, Iganga SS found it difficult to chase, with only Praise Victoria Nalubega offering resistance with 16 not out.

Florence Kaijuka starred with the ball, claiming a brilliant three-wicket haul, well supported by Hasfa Naula who picked up two wickets.

Iganga SS finished on 45/8, falling just short in a tightly contested match.

After electing to bat, Rwenzori HS struggled for consistency, with Ritah Musoki providing the only major contribution with a well-played 34 to lift them to 62/7.

In reply, St. James SS wasted no time in the chase, racing to 67/3 in just 6 overs.

Jackie Lalam led the charge with a blistering 16 off just 4 balls, while Lydia Mirembe anchored the innings with an unbeaten 23.

Their aggressive approach ensured a swift and emphatic victory.

Devine Gabriella Nyamer provided a late boost with a quick-fire 21 not out off just 7 balls.

In reply, Masindi SS never recovered from early breakthroughs despite brief resistance from Mariam Nyangoma (10).

Immaculate Nandera and Devine Gabriella Nyamer led the bowling attack with key wickets as Masindi were bundled out for 53 in 14.1 overs. Olila sealed a comprehensive win to continue their strong tournament form.

Gayaza HS vs Kasese SS  – @Gulu High Ground

After enduring three consecutive defeats, Gayaza High School finally got off the mark with a commanding 90-run victory over Kasese SS via the DLS method.

Batting first after being put in, Gayaza posted a strong 137/3 in their 17 overs, led by a brilliant unbeaten 89 from Ruth Mwanga, who anchored the innings with authority.

Phoebe Nakiyimba added 9, while Nakasujja Judith chipped in with a useful unbeaten 9 to guide the side to a competitive total.

In reply, Kasese SS never found momentum against a disciplined Gayaza bowling and fielding display. Early wickets and constant pressure saw them collapse to 40/9 in 12.2 overs.

Ronita Thungu (11) and Joan Musoki (9) offered brief resistance, but run-outs and tight bowling from Ruth Mwanga and Nambooze Patricia Nakato broke the chase apart.

Kasese eventually fell well short as Gayaza sealed a long-awaited and emphatic first win of the tournament.
