Kongai’s century- the first at this Movit-sponsored tournament- came spectacularly as the 2024 champions Light SS beat Kasese SS by 185 runs; as such, maintaining their spot at the top of Group B.

Kongai raises her bat after a well-crafted century

The opener knocked 13 fours and 2 sixes, guiding her side to a set score of 216/4 (the highest score at the tournament thus far) while etching her name in the history books as the latest centurion in the Girls Schools Cricket Week.

 Jinja SS vs Ndejje SS

The afternoon action also witnessed Biribawa pluck five wickets as record winners Jinja SS comprehensively beat Ndejje SS by 143 runs. The victory- their second at the tournament- leaves Habib Mugalula’s side top of Group C with six points.

In contrast, this was Ndejje’s second loss, and it leaves them second last in the group. Jinja SS, who won the toss, set 154/9; Ndejje managed only 11 and got bowled out in the 8.2 overs.

 Olila HS vs Rwenzori HS

Defending champions Olila HS didn’t have to break a sweat as they thumped Rwenzori HS by 171 runs. The side won the toss and elected to bat first and set 206; and were able to bundle out their opponents in the 10th Over.

Unlike Light SS, who had Kongai score half of the runs, the responsibility was shared in this one, with Lucy Agwang knocking 67 off 44 and Devine Nyamer at the tail end scoring 52 off 31- both players not out.

Olila, with now six points are placed second in Group A, three points behind Masindi SS; however, they have played a game less.

 Masindi SS vs St. Cornelius

Gloria Abicier emulated her teammate Peace Ninsima, bagging a hat trick as Masindi beat debutants St. Cornelius by 60 runs in the morning. It was the second hat trick of the tournament, following  Ninsima’s clean one against Rwenzori on the opening day.

The win took Masindi, who set 126/4 to the top of Group A and added to their 6-wicket win over St. James SS in the afternoon; they lead the group with a maximum, nine points.

Mt. St. Henry’s vs Soroti SS

Mt. St. Henry’s HS responded to their heavy defeat to Light SS with a 2-wicket win against debutants Soroti SS. The debutants opened the campaign with a convincing 7-wicket win against Kasese SS on Sunday, but despite a spirited fight on Monday, failed to defend the 49 they set.

Mt. St. Henry’s currently occupies the second position in Group B with six points, having lost one of their opening three games.

 St. John’s SS vs Nyakasura

Mukono side St. John’s SS maintained their spot at the top of Group D following their 141-run win against Nyakasura. The trio of Judith Nakasaga (47 off 46), Sonia Nampeera (46 off 52) and their captain Irene Mutonyi (40 off 23) bagged the team’s runs as they set 169/3.

 Gulu HS vs Masaka SS

Masaka SS made it two wins in two, keeping themselves in close range with Group D leaders St. John’s.

It was a low-scoring game that saw Hasfa Naula score 25 not out off 27 as they chased the 34/10 Gulu had set. Florence Kaijuka, with three wickets, Penina Natabo and team captain Kevin Mukite, each with two wickets, did the job with the ball.

It was Gulu’s second loss of the tournament, and they remain placed bottom in the group.

St Theresa Girls School vs Sacred Heart SS

Debutants St. Theresa suffered their first defeat of the tournament. The debutants convincingly beat Ndejje SS on the opening day in their first-ever game in the competition, but they were unable to navigate their way past Sacred Heart. This was Sacred Heart’s second win in Group B, and it keeps them second in the group standings.

 Goodheart SS vs Ndejje SS

After their defeat to St. Cornelius on the opening day, Ndejje SS bounced back with a comfortable 6-wicket win over Goodheart. Team captain Blessing Apio led by example, picking three wickets as they restricted their opponents to 55/10.

The win handed the side their first two points, but with their loss to Jinja SS in the afternoon,  they now count two losses in Group C.

 Gayaza HS vs Soroti SS

It was yet another loss for four-time champions Gayaza, who lost by 6-wickets to Soroti SS. The side placed second last in Group B has lost both its opening games. They remain one of the five teams yet to secure a win.

St John’s SS vs Iganga SS

St James SS vs Masindi SS

Jinja side St. James had five of their players duck in their 6-wicket loss to Masindi. The side-winners against St. Cornelius on the opening day won the toss and elected to bat first, but they were able to put on board only 66 as they got bowled out in the 15.2 overs.
