The 22nd edition of the Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week roared to life on Sunday, 3rd May in Gulu, delivering a thrilling opening day marked by commanding wins from tournament favourites and unforgettable debut performances from new entrants.
Defending champions Olila High School wasted no time stamping their authority, cruising to a dominant 154-run victory over debutants St. Cornelius SS.

Leading the charge was Victoria Pearls all-rounder Malisa Ariokot, whose unbeaten 96 anchored a professional start to their title defense. Yet, despite her brilliance, the day’s narrative stretched far beyond Olila’s routine triumph.

History beckoned for both Soroti SS and St. Theresa Girls School, who were making their maiden appearances in the competition—and they seized the moment in style.
St. Theresa Girls School announced their arrival with an emphatic 8-wicket win over Ndejje SS in an energetic afternoon clash.
A disciplined, collective bowling effort dismantled Sharma Mukaya’s side for just 44 in 11.3 overs.
Janet Abuu, Irene Tuhaise, and Catherine Tuhaise claimed two wickets apiece, while Victoria Pearls prospect Mariam Kayesu chipped in with one.
It was a statement debut that underlined their intent.
Earlier in the day, Soroti SS had set the tone with a ruthless bowling display of their own.

They skittled Kasese SS for a mere 28 inside 12 overs before calmly chasing down the target in 7.2 overs, sealing a convincing 7-wicket victory.
A dream start for the newcomers, and one that signals their potential to shake up the competition.
Elsewhere, record champions Jinja SS began their campaign in ominous fashion, brushing aside Goodheart SS with a commanding 165-run win.
Captain Sheila Namagoba led from the front with a blistering 65 off 37 balls, supported brilliantly by Asha Mukite’s 58 off 37.
Their efforts propelled Jinja to the day’s highest total of 198/8.
However, it was Ann Mary Kisa who stole the show with the ball, claiming a sensational six-wicket haul to bowl out Goodheart for just 33 inside 12 overs, an all-round masterclass from the Jinja side.
Light SS also enjoyed a comfortable outing, defeating Mt. St. Henry’s High School by 95 runs.
The 2024 champions were guided by Mary Joyce Arugo’s composed unbeaten 54, steering them to 118/4 before their bowlers took over.
Teddy Anyait delivered a remarkable spell, picking up four wickets while conceding just a single run.
Masindi SS were equally impressive in one of the day’s high-scoring encounters against Rwenzori High School.
Peace Ninsiima (54* off 56) and Mackline Kyosaba (49) powered Masindi to 127/2.
They then completed a dominant performance by bowling out their opponents for just 23.
Mariam Nyangamo picked up four wickets, while Ninsiima etched her name into the tournament’s history books with the first hat-trick, achieved in her only over, without conceding a run.
Hosts Gulu High School endured a tough start, falling to St. John’s SS Mukono in another one-sided contest.
Irene Mutonyi struck 49* off 31 to help St. John’s post 136/6, aided significantly by Gulu’s costly extras, 42 in total, including 34 wides.
The hosts were later bundled out for just 23 in 9.4 overs, handing St. John’s a commanding 117-run victory.
Sonia Nampeera starred with five wickets, while captain Shadia Giringish and Jovia Kisakye chipped in with three and two respectively.
With both seasoned contenders and ambitious newcomers making bold statements, the stage is perfectly set for an exciting tournament ahead.
Action continues on Monday as match day two promises even more drama and competition.
