St Cornelius Secondary School, Kalagala, are set to make their debut at the Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week after an impressive run in the Central Region qualifiers that confirmed their place among Uganda’s elite school cricket sides.

Their qualification journey was defined by consistency and resilience. St Cornelius topped Group B in the East with commanding performances, including a crucial 34-run victory over Code High School in a decisive encounter played early yesterday.

Although their momentum was briefly halted by a narrow 23-run defeat to St John’s Secondary School, Mukono, and they fell short of reaching the final, their earlier results proved decisive in securing qualification, having already defeated St John’s in the group stage encounter.

The Central Region qualifiers, which featured a total of 16 schools, marked the final stage of qualification for the national showpiece.

The participating schools included Mt St Henry’s High School, Mukono, Code High School, St Peter’s Secondary School, Nkokonjeru, Mt St Mary’s College Namagunga, St John’s Secondary School, Mukono, Uganda Martyrs College, Sonde, Mukono Kings High School, St Cornelius Secondary School, Kalagala, Ndejje Senior Secondary School, Comprehensive Secondary School, Shree Sahajanand School, Kings College Budo, Gayaza High School, Airforce Secondary School, Kibuli Secondary School, and Kololo Secondary School.

From the Central Region, four schools successfully booked their tickets to the Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week: St John’s SS, Gayaza High School, Ndejje Senior Secondary School, and debutants St Cornelius SS.

These sides now join other qualifiers from across the country to complete the final list of 20 teams in Gulu from 2nd to 9th May.

St John’s SS were crowned Central Region champions after edging Gayaza High School by 4 wickets in a tightly contested final played today, securing top honours heading into Gulu with confidence.

As the national tournament approaches, attention will be firmly on St Cornelius SS, who will be eager to announce themselves on the big stage against the country’s best school teams.
