Uganda has been confirmed as the proud host of the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier, scheduled to take place from March 6 to 15, 2026, at the lakeside town of Entebbe.
This historic tournament will bring together five cricket nations – Malawi, Kenya, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and Cameroon – to compete for two coveted spots in Division 1, which will be staged later this year in Tanzania.
The Division 1 event will feature higher-ranked regional sides, offering a pathway to qualification for the 2027 ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by Bangladesh and Nepal.
Lelia Namaganda, Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), expressed her pride in Uganda’s role:
This tournament is more than a competition – it is a platform to inspire young women, to showcase Uganda’s organisational excellence, and to reaffirm our commitment to advancing women’s cricket across Africa. We look forward to welcoming teams from across the continent and delivering an event that reflects both our passion for the game and our vision for its future.
Evelyn K.B. Shinyekwa, Tournament Director and Acting CEO of Cricket Uganda, highlighted the broader significance:
Hosting this qualifier is a landmark moment for Cricket Uganda and for women’s cricket across Africa. It demonstrates our growing capacity to stage international events and our unwavering commitment to creating opportunities for young women in sport. This tournament is not only about competition – it is about building pathways, inspiring future leaders, and positioning Uganda as a trusted hub for cricket development on the continent.
The competition will follow the T20 format, in line with ICC’s global standards for youth tournaments.
Uganda’s preparations are focused on delivering world-class facilities, engaging local fans, and ensuring sponsor visibility to make the event a sporting and cultural success.
The ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier in Entebbe will mark a milestone for Uganda and the continent, a celebration of youth, talent, and the future of women’s cricket in Africa.
