The long-awaited Mukono T20 Cup is finally set to bowl off at the Florida Oval in Nkokonjeru, marking an exciting milestone for the Mukono Cricket Community.
This first-ever edition brings together six teams, all composed of homegrown talent—ranging from emerging prospects to players groomed through local development pathways.
The tournament will follow a double round-robin format, ensuring each team gets ample playing time and competitive exposure.
The top two sides after the round-robin stage will advance to the final on 28th November, with the opening matches scheduled for tomorrow 20th November.
To widen the tournament’s reach, all matches will be streamed live, allowing supporters from across the region and beyond to follow the action.
Officiating will be handled by some of Uganda’s top-tier umpires, while prioritizing involvement from the Mukono cricketing community—further reinforcing the tournament’s developmental purpose.
Speaking about the significance of the event, Simon Kintu, Chairman of the Mukono Cricket Community, expressed delight at seeing the competition finally take shape:
We are happy to shake off the ice and launch an annual tournament we’ve long envisioned.
As a community committed to growing the game, this event offers people from Nkokonjeru, Ziba, Nnangunga, Ngogwe, and Kalagala not only entertainment, but a chance to appreciate and embrace cricket.
A major focus of the tournament is to offer Under-19 players a platform to showcase their skills, especially as many prepare for upcoming regional and national competitions.
It also highlights the impressive crop of Mukono-based cricket talent steadily rising through the ranks.
