The London Nigerians Cricket Club (LNCC) opened their Tour of Uganda with a loss to Chairman’s XI at Lugogo Cricket Oval on Monday.
Facing a confident Chairman’s XI, LNCC won the toss and elected to set a target – a choice that promised an attacking display.
For much of their innings, they delivered.
Ademola Onikoyi took command early on. His 48 came off just 31 balls, filled with clean strikes and smart placement.
He looked set for a big score until a sharp run-out ended his stay. Seun Odeku played the anchor role with a steady unbeaten 24, while captain Ositadinma Onwuzulike added a quick six.
Despite their efforts, LNCC closed at 136 for 5 – respectable, but perhaps a touch light.
The home side wasted no time in reply. Davis Turinawe tore into the bowling from the start.
In a blistering 19-ball 37, he cleared the ropes three times and rattled the fielders. His early assault put LNCC on the back foot and made the chase look straightforward.
Then came the fightback. Ademola Onikoyi, now with the ball in hand, produced a stunning spell.
Four wickets fell in quick succession – including Turinawe, caught behind. At one stage, the game hung in the balance.
But LNCC couldn’t maintain control. A flood of 29 wides gifted easy runs and released the pressure.

The Chairman’s XI middle order, led by Lubwama Solomon and Arnold Asiimwe, refused to panic. They picked off the remaining runs with ease, finishing the job in the 16th over.
Ademola Onikoyi walked away with Player of the Match for his all-round brilliance – the standout individual on the day.
Yet it was the Chairman’s XI who celebrated, their blend of aggression and composure proving decisive.
The London Nigerians will need to regroup fast as they face the Umpires and Scorers select today.
