Harare – September 28. Uganda’s campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier came to a heartbreaking end after a nine-run defeat to Tanzania in Match 6 at Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare earlier this evening.
After winning the toss and bowling first, Uganda restricted Tanzania to 128/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Mukesh Maker top-scored with 45 off 32 balls, while Alpesh Ramjani (2/15) and Cosmas Kyewuta (2/42) picked two wickets apiece for Uganda.

In reply, Uganda were cruising at 80/2 in 11 overs before a dramatic collapse saw them lose seven wickets for just 15 runs, eventually finishing on 119/9 after 20 overs. Young Tanzanian pacer Khalidy Juma turned the game on its head with a match-winning spell of 4/13.
Coach Abhay Sharma admitted that poor shot selection and lack of composure cost Uganda dearly, while captain Riazat Ali Shah pointed to the failure to rotate strike against spinners as a key factor.
With this result, Uganda bow out of contention for a World Cup slot.

Uganda Cricket Association Chairman, Jackson Kavuma, called for calm and collective focus, stressing that while the setback is disappointing, the long-term vision for Uganda cricket remains intact. “This setback must not define our team. What is required now is a clear-eyed analysis of what transpired and a deliberate plan on how best to move forward. With unity, patience, and informed decision-making, we are confident that we will emerge stronger,” he said.
Uganda will complete their Group B schedule against Botswana on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Takashinga Cricket Club Ground, Harare. Match starts at 10:30am.
