Pretoria – September 16 – The Cricket Cranes produced a thrilling performance today to chase down 160 against DP World Lions XI, winning by 2 wickets in their second game of the Tour of South Africa Series earlier today.

Despite a top-order wobble that saw Uganda slump to 20/5, a resilient 76-run partnership between captain Riazat Ali Shah (41 off 31) and Dinesh Nakrani (54 off 30) turned the tide. Explosive late-order hitting by Juma Miyaji (29 off 16) and lower-order support from Cosmas Kyewuta and Frank Nsubuga ensured victory with four balls to spare.

Uganda’s bowlers had earlier restricted the Lions to 159/7, with notable performances from Joseph Baguma (3/19), Frank Nsubuga (1/16) and Juma Miyaji (2/45). The Lions squad featured Proteas international Peter Nqabayomzi, who claimed the prize wicket of Robinson Obuya for 2.

Coach Jackson Ogwang commented:

“We showed that we are a tough team and that want to stay in the face of the rival for a long time. The boys showed they’re willing to fight. We will take the result and continue to more from batters.”

Captain Riazat Ali Shah added:

“These are the type of games we want to play. They test our resolve and make us better. Hats off to Nakrani and Miyaji. They’re true all-rounders and are very important for us going forward.”

With the win, Uganda now leads the series 2-0, ahead of their final encounter against Momentum Multiply Titans, champions of the Metro T10, scheduled for tomorrow at TuksCricket Oval, Pretoria.
