Gulu – May 2, 2025: The Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) is proud to announce that the 21st edition of the Sky View Girls Schools Cricket Week will be held in Gulu City, from May 3rd to May 10th, marking a significant milestone in the decentralization and nationwide growth of girls’ cricket in Uganda.
This is the first time Northern Uganda will host the prestigious tournament, following successful editions in Soroti City in 2023 and 2024. This year’s tournament will see 16 top-performing schools from six cricket regions gather at the Northern Cricket Hub, with Gulu High School serving as the official host.
“This is another opportunity to witness the cream of our future women cricketers in action. The increasing number of participating schools each year is a testament to the sport’s growing footprint,” said Davis Turinawe, UCA’s Development Manager.
“We thank Gulu High School and the Northern Cricket Hub for embracing this event.”
The Girls Schools Cricket Week is UCA’s premier development tournament for girls and provides a crucial platform for talent identification, skill development, and regional cricket exposure. This year’s edition builds on over two decades of momentum that have seen the emergence of national stars and stronger female representation in cricket.
Defending champions Light Secondary School from Soroti return with a point to prove after stunning three-time champions Olila High School in last year’s final. Traditional powerhouses such as Jinja SS (8-time winners) and Gayaza High School (4 titles) are expected to contend fiercely, alongside fast-rising teams like Sacred Hearts SS, who reached the semifinals in their debut appearance last year and now enjoy home support.
“Hosting this prestigious event marks a proud milestone for Gulu,” said Grace Mutyagaba, UCA’s Northern Region Development Officer.
“We anticipate thrilling matches will be exciting and the birth of new rivalries. But what stands out is the immersive community experience. Local volunteers will step up as scorers, umpires, and grounds staff – a hands-on involvement that strengthens the ecosystem across Northern Uganda.”
The tournament will also welcome debutants Mt St Henry’s Mukono High School, as well as returnees Nyakasura School, highlighting the geographic expansion and inclusivity of the event.
