Patidar picked up their first win of the season with a resounding seven-wicket win over Tornado Bee.

The four-time champions, Tornado Bee, who had won back to back games were seeking their third win of the season which would move them further away from the relegation scrap.

Tornado Bee won the toss and chose to bat first but they failed to build meaningful partnerships apart from the top three batsmen who had double figures the other batsmen none had double figures.

The spin combination of Hardik Patel (2/23) and Derrick Bakunzi (3/16) wreaked havoc as they skittled out the former winners for only 100 in 40 overs.

Patidar captain Ankit Patel made sure of all match points leading from the front for a fluid half-century as his side dropped three wickets in the chase to win by 7 wickets.

This is the first win for Patidar who have suffered from the weather denying them action in two games that ended in draws but could have easily been their wins.

They will take the win as they try and play catch up with the teams at the top.

MASABA, MUKASA INSPIRE AZIZ DAMANI TO WIN AGAINST TORNADO BEE

  • Aziz Damani 331/7 (Brian Masaba: 97 runs not off 77 balls, Roger Mukasa: 84 runs off 79 balls, Saud Islam: 73 runs off 66 balls) 48 overs beat Tornado Bee 99 in 29.4 overs by 232 runs
  • Player of the Match: Henry Ssenyondo (5 wickets for 20 runs in 9.4 overs with 4 maidens)

National team duo of Roger Mukasa (84) and Brian Masaba (97) inspired their club side Aziz Damani to a big win over former champions Tornado Bee.

The game played at the University Oval in Kyambogo was a one-sided affair as the reigning champions rolled out their rivals to pick up their second win of the season.

Aziz Damani won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Roger Mukasa (84) and Saud Islam (74) were able to put on 158 runs for the first wicket as Damani put their rivals to the sword. Brian Masaba (97) was able to pick up from where the openers stopped as he anchored the rest of the innings with a fluent half-century.

In the chase, Henry Ssenyondo (5/20) claimed a fiver as Tornado Bee was not given a chance to even come close eventually bundled out for 99 in 29 overs. Mitch Horrocks (31) and Sohaib Eshan (25) were able to make some decent contributions with the bat for Tornado Bee.

The win was the second for Damani in the league as Tornado Bee continue to wait for their first win of the season.

The game between Kutchi Tigers and Patidar was postponed after the ground was in use by the golf fraternity for a private function.

Uganda playing for pride against Kenya

Yesterday’s listless display against Qatar ended Uganda’s interest in the ongoing Four-Nations Twenty20 Quadrangular Series.

Uganda went down by six wickets in a low-scoring one-sided affair at Nairobi Jaffrey’s Sports Club in Lavington. Coupled with Monday’s 31-run loss to Saudi Arabia at Nairobi Gymkhana Oval, the Cricket Cranes are out for contention for Friday’s final.

But Steve Tikolo’s charges have a chance of playing ‘Kingmaker’ when they play for pride against Kenya in today’s derby clash at Nairobi Gymkhana Oval. The match will be telecast live by ZUKU TV.

Kenya put on an insipid show as they went down by 39 runs to a fired-up Saudi Arabian-outfit at Gymkhana and now run into wounded Ugandan side eager to get the monkey off their back in the shorter code of the series.

Uganda’s only win in the One Day International (ODI) Series last weekend was against Kenya – a two wicket win last Friday.

And Tikolo believes that result will pump up the Ugandans to complete a rare double of their ‘big brothers.

“We have been losing matches but we are not a bad side,”
said Tikolo, a man who played in five ICC Cricket World Cups.

“We have just been making small mistakes here and there. But the players are fired up for the Kenya game.”

For Kenya, coach Thomas Odoyo says they have no option but beat Uganda convincingly and keep their hopes of progressing alive. “Our shot selection was poor and we paid the price of complacency,” said Odoyo, without trying to find any excuse for his team that was bowled out for 84 while chasing 124 against Saudi Arabia yesterday.

“We have the experienced players to turn the tide. We shall don the thinking caps and stay on our toes.”
At the Nairobi’s Jaffrey’s Ground, Saudi Arabia will take on Qatar and if the latter win, they could as well be in final with a game to spare depending on what happens at Gymkhana Oval.

Mukasa century earns Tornado B sweet revenge against KICC

Tornado B batsman Roger Mukasa struck a century of 119 runs off 90 balls to help his side to a comfortable 125-run victory over Kampala Institute of Cricket Clubs (KICC) at the University Oval in Kyambogo on Sunday.
“I was hitting the balls quite well on a favourable wicket,” a thrilled Mukasa told Daily Monitor. His second ton gave title holders Tornado B firm grip of top spot in the National Men’s Division One 50-Over League with 41 points.
“This is my best century this year because I didn’t give the bowlers any chance until I departed,” the right-hand batsman said in comparison to his 72-ball 137 against Challengers back on May 3.
While Mukasa stretched his tally to 480 runs from nine innings, it was a guillotine that deemed right for Tornado B to revenge the first-round four-wicket defeat to KICC. “We didn’t bowl well against him and that’s how we lost it. But we’ll be glad for taking a bonus point,” noted KICC skipper Geoffrey Gandhi.
Gandhi’s option to field first temporarily seemed right as their opponents got off to a rather plodding start as Tornado B were 44-2 in 14.2 overs. It’s here that Mukasa took the bull by its horns.
He made nine boundaries and five maximums in a 114-run combo with Akbar Baig (66 off 106) and later shared 100 runs with Davis Karashani. Eventually, Tornado B coasted to 322/8, the second highest score this season. KICC’s opening pair of Abdallah Lubega (61 off 66) and John Gabula (35 off 76) shared 95 runs to spark signs of hope. But once their union broke, the side’s wheels came off after they lost seven wickets for 30 runs and Gandhi’s late 42 off 39 was a mere kick of a dying horse.
