Cricket Cranes and Tornado B opening bowler Charles Waiswa and KICC’s batting all-rounder John Tumusiime have been banned by Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) for six matches.
The bans were issued last Wednesday by the UCA Disciplinary Committee. The two players were involved in a brawl during their teams’ National Twenty20 League quarterfinal clash at Kyambogo Oval on April 6.
The committee found them guilty of physical assault and acts of violence. In that fiery rubber that saw KICC win by 10 runs, left-arm seamer Waiswa (3/15) allegedly hurled obscenities at Tumusiime (33 off 26) before the pair went physical.
Their short-lived brawl was in the 16th over of the first innings as KICC set 116. In a communique to the press, the committee led by Robert Kisubi said the pair had committed a Level 4 offence and would serve a six-match ban with immediate effect.
“Waiswa and Tumusiime are also not allowed at any UCA premises which include all grounds, cricket nets and Nakawa Secretariat,” read part of the statement.
Waiswa forthwith missed last weekend’s eight-run win over Nile and is ineligible to play against Challengers, Charity TF, Rounders, Wanderers and Jinja SS in the Division I National 50-over League.
Likewise, Tumusiime missed his club’s one-run triumph over SKLPS and will not play five more Division II games against Mwiri, Makerere University, Premier, Kutchi Tigers and Patidar Samaj. Both players will be out for approximately three months.
“We will miss Waiswa but we already have a back-up plan,” said Tornado B captain Jeremy Kibuukamusoke, who was left mulling by the decision, said.
Efforts to reach KICC captain Hanumant Katkar were futile.
According to their club fixtures, the pair will make their return at the end of July. The pair’s form will be affected as Daily Monitor has learnt that they were on national coach Davis Turinawe’s radar as potential picks for African Six-Aside Sixes Tournament in South Africa due in September.
